"Traffic to follow, report in sight"

Does this mean you automatically follow the traffic when you see them, even if when you call them in sight, the controller doesn't acknoweldge your transmission? It seems that's what tower thought it meant in this scenario....but maybe it does mean that and I am completely off-base? Scenario...

    Does the GTX-45r qualify as a Mode S xpndr w/ G3X + GNC355?

I have a Garmin GTX-45r mounted behind my panel, controlled through the GDU-465 display in a G3X system. The ifr navigator is a GNC-355. Does the GTX-45r qualify as a mode-s in this install, and if so, what is the best way to make sure it is setup properly?

Landing a Cub on a Glacier

This was my first time landing on a glacier so I filmed it and made a video. Decided to do a voiceover with narration explaining what I'm doing and the techniques I was taught, experienced glacier pilots feel free to critique.

    RPM vs LOP

My airplane is a 2022 Cub Crafters Carbon Cub FX3 (CCX-2000 is the type designation) with a cc363i engine which is a 186 HP Lycoming YIO-360-EXP128. On my previous airplane, a 1959 C182B with the O-470L, I did put speed tape over half of the air-oil heat exchanger (oil cooler) in the winter...

    Overhead Hoist for T-hangar

Hmmm, I didn't think of that, that's a pretty good thought. I'll run it by my mechanic.

    Overhead Hoist for T-hangar

Unfortunately the skis don't permit that.

    Overhead Hoist for T-hangar

Twice per year there is a gear change plus more jacking/lifting if maintenance needs to be done. Own with an HoA approval required for any changes like this Gear changes and maintenance for removing/installing wheels/tires. It is difficult to jack the airplane. The wing to lift strut area...

    RPM vs LOP

My question on LOP engine operation is how long to wait before setting the mixture when leveling off after climb to initial cruise altitude. Especially in winter I have noticed that the EGT's absolute value will increase by 20-40 degrees after being run for about 15-20 minutes compared to an...

    Overhead Hoist for T-hangar

Hello, I'm considering contracting an engineering firm to design an installation of an overhead hoist in my T-hangar. The main problem is that it has 20 foot ceilings and nothing directly over head the airplane CG that is suitable to mount a hoist. The previous owner constructed a 10 foot...

    Jumper Cables with thin prongs/clips?

The battery resting voltage on my EarthX ETX680c is always in the mid 13's when I do a preflight. Even after just a 15 minute flight the time it wouldn't work the other day it was at 13.5 when I checked it during postflight with just the master on. I called EarthX and they had a great tech...

    Jumper Cables with thin prongs/clips?

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a place to get jumper cables with thin alligator clips? The battery terminals in my plane are impossible to access with the normal thick ones. I've seen some people with cables that have normal sized prongs then a metal extension coming out of the end of the...

Sleeping Bag for survival kit in Airplane?

Thanks all, I ended up ordering a 5 lb vacuum sealed 0 degrees F rated bag from Wiggys. For $200 plus $100 for the vacuuming. Not ideal but a reasonable compromise in my view and better than nothing. I'm trying to do a winter survival class this year too!

Alaska: where the entire day is a "golden hour" right now. First touchdown in powder for the season (and ever for me with these Summit S2300 skis on the Carbon Cub), even though it wasn't very deep! Feels good!

Sleeping Bag for survival kit in Airplane?

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a survival kit sleeping bag? It's a Carbon Cub with extended baggage so it has a fair bit of space, but not when you start putting engine covers, stove/preheaters, axes, snowshoes, first aid, etc in it. It's for Alaska so preferably something rated...

Self Insuring an Airplane - Investment vehicles etc.

What would a legitimate self-insurance scheme for "hull" be made up of then? I figured an existing pool of money to cover immediate replacement plus an annual payment to cover increasing repair/replacement costs over time would do it?

Self Insuring an Airplane - Investment vehicles etc.

I'm wondering if anyone has legitimately tried to self-insure their airplane? Commercial insurers wanted $12k/year to insure my cub for hull+liability coverage and I felt that was excessive, so I didn't buy it. Yes, I shopped around at every conceivable insurer. It's a factory built 2022...
