    Florida North/south hemisphere altitude rules

Around my area (East coast, Daytona) it seems to just be a crap shoot. I've seen VFR traffic at just about any altitude going any/all directions.

    How is Panthera doing?

There's a few out there but it's not certified. The only ones in the field are experimental exhibition registered. Not sure if things are progressing at all now that Textron bought them.

    Drone v helo Fla 12/30/2023

Landing at the flea market, where the helicopter has been pretty consistently in service for years. Pretty much right next to where it happened, and just west of DAB. He definitely wasn't doing anything he shouldn't have been

Will the Gi-275, or anything else for that matter, do this?

Any reason you can't just use a portable GPS like an Aera or similar?

What's that sound the airplane makes?

I hear it too, every time I take the dogs out. I feel like it is most noticeable from the Airbus family, and also seems to correspond to ~10k feet

School me, what is the appeal of Land Rovers?

Your Disco makes me miss my Disco

    Tinker AFB Air Show

The show promoters are convinced that if the big acts go first, everyone will leave immediately after. They probably aren't wrong.

Chicago to Alaska via Piper Arrow

FAA vs ICAO code. Same thing is pretty common in the lower US as well.

Pilot tells controller to eff off. Called her a B

That's sure what it sounded like. Lesson learned, always look for the Tx indicator occasionally

    Proliferation of schools using callsigns

The FAA publishes a list of callsigns.. Odds are good that Kilo Charlie just has a "local" approval for Pit-Boss. They weren't using that when I was at IXD, so I assume it's new-ish. Outside of Kansas City area, I assume they go back to their tailnumber.

Diamond Aircraft going to embargoed Myanmar (a.k.a. Burma)

They are made in the US. Garmin isn't shy about made in USA for their certified aircraft equipment.

Got any leads on old, abandoned planes?

Totally derailing the thread here -- is the museum even open ever anymore? Last time I was there was SnF in ~2019. Haven't been (or tried) back since relocating to FL.

Got any leads on old, abandoned planes?

Good or bad -- I'm pretty sure Kermit is semi-exclusively in the business of buying airplanes. It's definitely a shame how bad that Connie has gotten

    ADSB tracking (or lack thereof)

But not exclusively, like ADSBExchange. Flightaware also receives and displays a tremendous amount of data from the FAA (and other government sources around the world). That's why Flightaware hides flights (required by the FAA) and ADSBExchange doesn't.

Delta Hawk DHK180 for my Socata Tampico TB9, I just paid the deposit

Ah somehow I totally missed that you were doing this yourself. That's a very significant amount of work, and without some experience/guidance it seems like it could literally take 5+ years. Best of luck, this definitely isn't for me faint of heart.

Delta Hawk DHK180 for my Socata Tampico TB9, I just paid the deposit

Who is responsible for getting the STC? I assume DeltaHawk? If so, why do you need to convince the FAA of anything?

Anyone have experience with L3Harris School in Florida?

That's pretty generous. "L3" in any form that is recognizable as today didn't exist at all until the 90's (barely over 2 decades ago). But you're not wrong, Link (Hughes training, and many other names over the years) is obviously a pretty historic training business.

    Gem from recurrent training

Do the available iPad apps not already accomplish that?

Anyone have experience with L3Harris School in Florida?

Sorta. Harris merged with L3 to form L3Harris back in 2019. They do a ton of stuff, mostly defense. PIlot training is a tiny portion of what they do.

DA20 as an instrument training option?

14 CFR 23.2515 covers lightning protection for IFR in Part 23 aircraft. It has nothing to do with equipment, and everything to do with aircraft certification. Yes, the limitation is written out in the POH, but it's not just an arbitrary limitation, it's a certification restriction. Also, most...
