    Cross-hobbies - trouble or not?

As a person that travels with a lot of expensive camera gear I think it's important to use everything you have without thinking twice about it. I see so many gear collectors (planes, cars, cameras, etc) that do not enjoy the stuff they have now because they are too worried about damage to the item.

    Digital Cameras

Lance Tim was correct on both of the statements. The full frame sensor means that it is the same size as normal 35mm film. It is a lot larger than the smaller 1.6 crop sensors that are used in cheaper cameras. When using a normal (film) lens on a 1.6 crop sensor the captured image with only...

    Digital Cameras

You already have a p of s you can use if you want a small compact camera to take with you. My suggestion would be buy a dslr like a nikon d50/40 or canon xt or xti. These cameras are WAY better than anything you have ever used before. Great low light performance and fast operation. You can...

    Cirrus crash (?) in Indy

The same could be said for any plane over 10 years old... You have no facts and you are asking questions in a way that is attacking the pilot who you know nothing about... Bob was a wonderful man and a pleasure to know. He has owned cirrus aircraft in the past and has flown "brand new"...

    Camping Supplies

Another option is to save the $60 you will waste on a cheap tent and look on ebay for a high country, mountain hardware, scarface etc and spend around 100-150 on a tent that will last you a lifetime, be lighter to put in the airplane, won't let you down when you need it the most, and you will be...

Mooney Ovation 3 with 310 HP

That's like saying a corvette can do 180mph and get 28mpg...there are no marketing scams going on here. The corvette will do 180mph but the mpg will probably be around 4-5. The corvette will get 28 mpg but with a slow driver at the wheel. Other notes: 75% LOP (50-60 deg richest cyl) will...

    Mooney Acclaim & Known Icing

"I was technically illegal" - That's the difference. During the winter up here michigan has A LOT of ice days. The ice is often not that bad but a person that actually wants to use his or her aircraft and stay legal needs to have a KI aircraft. The ice system on the Mooney works REALLY well...

    Mooney Acclaim & Known Icing

Yep it's like a new 911 turbo, they still make that crap out of metal...talk about a 100 year old design, why don't they just call it a model T. I'm so tired of the domestic car companies still making cars with 4 wheels. We all want new designs, lets make them with 10 wheels! I myself like...

    Mx Issue

Our plane has two expensive batteries and we are currently trying a desulfinating battery charger to see if it extends the life of them some. Probably will not make much of a difference but at least they will be at 100 percent charge when we start on a trip.

Making an alteration to my cowl.

I think steve b ? did ~1700 nm in a columbia 300 around a year ago... That's a long time to spend in an aircraft. Long distance flying try this site http://www.kerrlake.com/mgarratt/pilot.htm

So how far have you gone on a tank?

I got thinking this weekend after a trip in the plane (AZ to MI). What is the longest distance you have traveled non stop in a GA aircraft? Our personal best is ~1500 miles with 1.75 hours of full left on board.

    Explaining Weather Decision Making

A few times we have delayed our trip a day or two and it's a pain in the rear. However, sometimes we find out after the fact that it would have been a huge mistake to push on...in the end it all works out.

Making an alteration to my cowl.

The air is slamming into the top of the cowling. This slightly pressurizes the air above the cylinders and then it blows down past the cylinders. If you cut the cowling the air will find the path to least resistance and flow out the plane without cooling the engine. Gas is not necessarily...
