Video of C-152 Stall/Spin @ Quebec City (CYQB)

You know what? Never mind. I try to do something helpful and be respectful to others. All I get are snarky replies. Happens way too often on this web site. I've got better things to do.

Okay, then let's agree to disagree. To me there's clear change in elevator position between first and subsequent images. In the last image, the rudder is in silhouette and it seems pretty clear to me that it's left rudder being applied there.

Video of C-152 Stall/Spin @ Quebec City (CYQB)

Got the original video from Twitter (or is it "X" now?) here: Below are some frame captures, enlarged, cropped, contrast-adjusted and sharpened. Unfortunately, the white portions of the wings seem to be over-exposed, and there's not much detail there. I've also got a 4x enlarged, cropped video...

Cherokee Six Down in Canada-6 fatalities

Best I can make out weather at the time, is that it was probably BKN-OVC between departure and Golden, and CLR or SCT West of there, but that's far from definitive. Two images below, a map showing some points where I tried to make a stab at weather, and the max ROC table for the Saratoga at max...

Cherokee Six Down in Canada-6 fatalities

That's a good find. Here's the for-sale page showing a pending sale, maybe the one into Canada: https://www.aircraft.com/aircraft/219959747/n716cm-1980-piper-saratoga-sp Engine 1746 SMOH, autopilot alt hold inop, garmin 430 + gdl82 ADS-B out, HSI, more on that page. Annual due this coming...

Cherokee Six Down in Canada-6 fatalities

I'm trying to find out what the weather was in the crash area at the time. METAR in Calgary was overcast 3900, and I found some past weather for Banff which is not ultra far from the site (Mt Bogart or McGillivray) that indicates cloudy conditions with light rain (link below), that's for Friday...

Cherokee Six Down in Canada-6 fatalities

Yeah, me too. I just found what I was looking for in terms of the legal limits of class B in Canada. It's in their "Designated Airspace Handbook", here: https://www.navcanada.ca/en/dah20230615.pdf Their Class B starts either at 12,500 MSL (they call it ASL -- guessing thats the same as MSL?)...

Cherokee Six Down in Canada-6 fatalities

Yeah, I had the altitude limit wrong -- it's 12,500 -- airspace above that is Class B and requires a clearance, either CVFR or IFR.But, over mountainous terrain, there's a minimum terrain clearance too, and I don't know what that is. Anyone have recent experience to chime in? I've only been in...

Cherokee Six Down in Canada-6 fatalities

There's a thread on this here: https://www.pprune.org/accidents-close-calls/653964-piper-pa32-aircraft-kananaskis-country-alberta-canada.html Someone posted a METAR claimed to be for their time of departure (I did not verify that's correct). Don't know if Canada pilot info is public to check if...

Cherokee Six Down in Canada-6 fatalities

Found that the crash site is more likely on Mt McGillivray. Recent registration is C-FCCY, so a relatively new owner. You can find it by searching the Transport Canada web site for the tail number. Couldn't find any ADS-B data for the date of flight, although FlightAware shows a flight about 5...

Cherokee Six Down in Canada-6 fatalities

Here's the great circle route and approximate crash location (Mt Bogart) as published in the media from google earth web. The actual crash location isn't published, so that's just the marker for Mt Bogart -- not necessarily the true location. The web version of GE doesn't do elevation profiles...

OSH - T-6 goes into Lake Winnebago Saturday 7/29 morning

Well, I don't disagree with what seems most likely. And I also thought that Juan's video provided good info about handling stalls and spins in the T-6 (never been in one). I just think it would have been better if there was a comment somewhere in there that we don't really know what happened...

OSH - T-6 goes into Lake Winnebago Saturday 7/29 morning

I'm going to have to start watching Juan Browne with my more critical eye (which one is that, anyway?). He is also indirectly blaming the pilot now before we know much. While he doesn't directly say it, the whole video is about T'-6's and pilots and spin recovery. Not a word about any other...

OSH - T-6 goes into Lake Winnebago Saturday 7/29 morning

Maybe there should be a separate category on POA for DG threads :) Okay, just kidding. Seriously though, he jumps to conclusions all the time. For example here, he doesn't even consider the possibility that the pax had some involvement in the accident -- dual controls, right? That's not unheard...

    Interesting comms

Okay, here's my funny coms story. On a flight in upstate NY one day, guy in a Cessna calls up to get flight following. After giving ATC his destination, this exchange took place: ATC: Cessna 123, say heading Cessna: One-eight-zero ATC: That's not gonna get you there. Cessna: How about 245? ATC...

    Oh Chute

Just like the $15k that was vaporized from the pilot's bank account for the parachute re-pack

This is beginning to remind me of that thread where the plane full of dogs landed on a golf course (or something like that)...
