    Changing the oil--Women v Men

But you still have to deal with the filter! GM designed mine so no matter how neat you are it makes a mess taking it off.

Drivers are so bad now the fire trucks and ambulances are stopping

Understand completely. However, the yellow is never that short. And there is usually overlap between the red and green. But you're right, if it's ridiculously short that is... well... ridiculous.

Drivers are so bad now the fire trucks and ambulances are stopping

Again, we don't have them where I live but I've read plenty and drive in Chicago very often. They are almost as effective as marked patrol cars in reducing number of vehicles that run lights (only where their presence is known), with a predictable effect on fatalaties therefrom. Not sure what...

Drivers are so bad now the fire trucks and ambulances are stopping

It also dramatically reduces accidents and fatalities (from red-light runners anyway) where the cameras are used.

Drivers are so bad now the fire trucks and ambulances are stopping

We have those and they are great. The open cabs (I often ride in the back of ours) are incredibly noisy but there are earphones back there too; no intercom though. Department policy requires a full stop at all intersections here and in most places I've been. Apparatus drivers are the greatest!

    [NA] Prius [NA]

Actually you can get more for batteries if you recycle them yourself. Either lead-acid or NiMH. And the lead etc., are reclaimed. I suspect the emissions numbers I have heard for today's diesels are slanted by bias. I am amazed how many people say "I had a 1978 Caprice Diesel and I would never...

    [NA] Prius [NA]

No, the modifications I'm speaking of give you 30-40 miles range and involve a complete battery change. It costs quite a bit to do. The on-board batteries supplied with the Prius would indeed only be good for a short time. Since I drive that distance one-way to work, Plug-in Hybrid is the...

    [NA] Prius [NA]

The Escape is nothing like the Prius. The Prius has an electric traction motor in addition to the gas engine, and with modifications can run like a plug-in hybrid (can be completely electric powered or run on the gas engine for longer trips). In my opinion plug-in hybrids are the way to go...

    Greeley/Denver

Go to the airport restaurant at Greeley if it's still open. Fly out to Fort Morgan and take a look at the abandoned railroad town of Keota (what's left of it).

New York East river Crash update

Yes there are. They like to barrel into the pattern with the radio turned down because they can. They taxi fast, take off in front of me when I'm on short final like they're God Almighty, and thunder into the FBO and blather when a student flies the pattern a little wide. They armchair...

    Zippy car recommendation

Drive the new Jetta before you decide. You can even get a diesel, and it gets 45 mpg.

    $2 a gallon Gas (or lower)soon

I've noticed that behavior in all sizes of vehicles from 2500 to 80,000+ pounds. Everyone is me-first. People need to take a chill pill and remember it's just driving. Luckily our local law enforcement dispatch is very effective and drivers of all types of vehicles soon find out that no one is...

Chicago agrees to pay $1M and full fine for Daley's midnight destruction of Meigs

Why wasn't this done? (I'm sure I'm missing something but instead of fines, etc., I would just say "put it back".)

    Good Interview Questions

"What is your strongest attribute? Describe a situation in which you used that attribute to solve a problem?" Since I usually interview engineers I usually steer away from what they want to tell me about (geek stuff) and steer towards what I need (hands-on problem solving). If they keep...

Mile High club couple in deep doo doo

Nahhh. I think they were having sex in the toilet.

    $2 a gallon Gas (or lower)soon

They'll be back as soon as weather/pipeline failures/pick-an-event happens. Even $3.49 gas didn't bother people too much judging by the speeds everyone drove on the highways during the post-Katrina price gouging.

    Virginia, land of license plates

Someone in MI got an Italian bad word past the censor. CA**O. I cracked up when I saw it. I pass on the amateur radio or N-number plates, due to the large number of creepy people out there. My favorite was the Colorado denim plate that had 8 digits and was impossible to read.
