SFO bay tour or close to it

This will be much too late for your Bay Tour on Tuesday, but if you would like to get a good briefing on Bay Tours in general, Dan Dyer at San Carlos Flight Center is running one his WINGS seminars on that topic on July 9th. More info here. Max Trescott also does WINGS seminars on that topic...

    The Grand Adventure

Kent, Truly excellent commentary. I'm completely envious of the trip you are taking. :D I drove the Black Hills a couple of weeks ago and unintentionally ran into the Sturgis Rally. That many motorcycles on the ground is even noisier than a Cessna without a noise-canceling headset. I'd much...

End of July ConUS Challenge Update

I have to fly quite a ways now to even start getting to unclaimed (paved) airports. It's kind of hard to keep up the pace, but I may make one more long trip to work on unclaimed airports in the West.

Did you know? (ConUS Challenge Stuff)

I'll post a bunch of my claims shortly. Did a July 4th weekend trip to work on California and Oregon, but I'll never be able to finish up California -- I don't do dirt fields (yet, anyhow), so there are a couple that someone else is going to have to hit.

    Glad I got outbid!

Wow. I knew that inflated shipping prices were not atypical on eBay but that cost is beyond the pale.

“Go Fly America” is coming to an end

Woohoo, the Challenge continues. More time for more airports. :D But woe is my pocketbook. And here I thought I was going to be able to save up some money for a nice flat panel TV. I guess my 27" tube TV will have to continue to serve me for another year. ;) Let me say, however, a...

    End of November ConUS Challenge

Sorry to hog all of the airports. I blame my navigator. He's the one who made it possible to hit so many places by sharing the expenses and handling the routing. I just do the pilot stuff. ;)

    End of November ConUS Challenge

I would have finished Rhode Island when I did those airports in Massachusetts. Unfortunately, all of the flying clubs in the area that I checked on have insurance policies that prohibit landing on runways of less than 3000 feet. Richmond (08R) is 2129 feet. Given that I'm flying a 172, I...

    End of November ConUS Challenge

Thanks, Barb. It was a good trip, although it leaves me with very few airports in striking range. I really should proofread those postings, but I usually make them late at night when I return from a trip and I have trouble focusing!

    Jane Austin Fans take note!

Thanks for the heads up. This will be so much better than watching them on A&E directly (with all of the commercials) and a lot cheaper than buying the DVDs (ConUS Challenge has depleted the disposal income). I'll just have to remember to program the TiVo in January.

    New Orleans

I'll second that recommendation for Pascals Manale. To that I would add the Verti Marte in the Quarter. It's just a deli/micromarket, but I love their muffalettas - drove from the SF Bay Area to New Orleans for one in 2004! (Some day I'll fly there, but probably not before the Conus Challenge...

Cool place to stay in New Orleans?

I had a nice stay Le Richelieu Hotel pre-Katrina. While it doesn't really meet your criteria, it's located at the far, quiet end of the French Quarter and has a lot of character. Got a pretty good AAA rate, as I recall.

    A380 -- Mile high dream?

With the open ceiling of those suites, I'm not sure you'd want to join the Mile High Club unless you were also an exhibitionist. Still, those are mighty sweet(!) accommodations.

Searchers looking for world record holder Steve Fossett

Any ideas if these images will be fed to the Amazon Mechanical Turk for distributed searching? Probably too much data to work well on mturk, but it might be worthwhile. That is some really desolate country. Flew through Yerington (and other parts of Nevada) on Saturday and the area around...

For the lawyers: pro se question

Whew! I work for RSA and I was trying to figure out why the heck we would want to sue anyone for libel. Any chance the EFF would help out in such a case? If the libel case were seen as another method by which RIAA uses legal proceedings to a common end, they might be interested.

    Lightspeed 30-3G or...

Well, as long as the Zulu does better than the Thirty-3G, that's probably all that matters. The Thirty-3G just doesn't serve me well near the ground and the upgrade route seems like the most cost-effective way to get a better headset. Thanks for the insights.

    Lightspeed 30-3G or...

Any thoughts on how the Zulu compares to the Bose noise cancelling-wise? I'm also considering the upgrade as I'm not pleased with what the 30-3G can do near the ground when the ear cups aren't perfectly sealed.

    Barb - You're my Hero

I can't hold a candle to Barb, but having pretty much run out of airports in Northern California, Oregon seemed like a good place to visit. Hey, there's still plenty of Oregon and Nevada left. So far. ;) A friendly, fun competition, to be sure. Arf, arf! :cheerswine: Still, none of us are...
