    Smoke hood?

I've always been curious about the value of having a smoke hood onboard in the event of a fire. That said, I've never run across anyone that actually had one on board. Does anyone have any opinions or experience related to the value of carrying a smoke hood?

    C441 real world range

An alternate route is three ~1500nm legs, all over land, but it's less desirable.

    C441 real world range

There are two 2000nm legs on my trips, the first is over land, 50% of the second leg is over water. I had been looking at the Phenom 300, I hadn't considered the 35A, I'll check it out. I appreciate the recommendations. I had not considered the Falcon 50, I'll check the specs. Thank you...

    C441 real world range

Good morning, I'm looking for an aircraft that will need to fly 2000nm legs regularly, regardless of wind direction. Speed is valuable, but not necessarily the top priority. The Cessna 441 seems to fit the bill perfectly in terms of cost and capability. What I'm not sure of though is that I'm...

    AV30 AOA

I'm still playing with the AOA feature, I'm still not sold on its value at this point. I do have quick precession and I'm waiting for the software update. I also have some noise that's been introduced into the audio circuit from the AV-30, currently working through that as well.

    Performance - 206 TSIO520 vs IO550

Yep that's mine, takeoff performance is a factor to me, I fly a lot of back country so climbing out of remote strips with safe clearance of terrain is paramount.

    Performance - 206 TSIO520 vs IO550

Geosync: thanks for the tip, I've cross posted this on both forums hoping for a response weilke: thanks for the beech cross reference, that will be helpful info Brad: Thank you!! AA5Bman: that's the sort of feedback I figured I'd get. The 550 sounds great on paper and may be a bit cheaper...

    Performance - 206 TSIO520 vs IO550

Hey guys, My family is quickly outgrowing my 182, I recently found out there's another addition to the family on the way and expected to be here in 7 months. I'm looking for some real-world feedback from folks who own 70s-80s 206s with either the TSIO520 or the IO550 (not the stock IO520). Or...

    AV30 AOA

Hey guys, I recently installed a certified AV30 in my 182. I'm pretty happy with the instrument so far, I'm wondering how many others have had the opportunity to monkey with the AOA feature, and what your thoughts on the feature are? I've followed the instructions and played with it a bit with...

Not giving up when the mains touch

Thanks guys, lots of great feedback. Interestingly enough, I focused really hard on keeping the yoke back on my last flight and it actually didn't change a thing. The noise wheel still comes down firmly, as the plane settles onto the runway it's running out of elevator authority anyways. Still...

Not giving up when the mains touch

Thanks for the quick responses, guys. In response to trim, my 182 doesn't have enough trim authority to trim for airspeed on final, my trim wheel is usually buried on base.

Not giving up when the mains touch

Having a struggle with a bad habit that crops up every time I start to get rusty. It's a primacy problem. I have the habit of wanting to relax as soon as the mains touch and not holding the nosewheel up. It takes a bit of effort in my nose heavy 182. What have YOU done to break yourself of...

    Aircraft selection with specific criteria

You guys make an excellent point on "trying it on," I'll have to find one and check it out to be sure it will fit. Several have mentioned the 400 series, I think what steered me away from them is they don't quite fit the "most cost effective" part of the criteria. The 414 was on my short list...

    Aircraft selection with specific criteria

That would be my next bird after the PA-46 if ever the funds are available. The TBM, in my opinion, and without ever actually flying one, is the ultimate personal traveler.

    Aircraft selection with specific criteria

This is very reassuring, you guys are championing the exact aircraft I selected. I'd poured over dozens of articles and cut sheets before determining the Malibu would be the best fit. My plan was to look for a late 80's PA-46-310P with the improved gear/flap control and the 520 engine. I have...

    Aircraft selection with specific criteria

I've done quite a bit of research, and I feel like I have the right aircraft selected, but there are a lot of experienced pilots here and I'd love to hear your recommendations. The goal here is to find the aircraft that is most cost effective in meeting these criteria. Here are the target...

    Advice on path to insurability

Good afternoon, Currently a 300 hour PPL working towards an instrument rating. I would like to continue training and building time such that I'm competent and insurable in a PA46/M350. All my time is currently in fixed gear single engine Cessnas. What would I need to do to set myself up for...

    PA-46 Questions

Good afternoon, I'm trying to track down some specifics. Of the later PA-46-310s, which had the 520, electric flaps, and improved gear? Was it 86.5-87? Also, how does the TSIO-550 compare to the TSIO-520 in terms of fuel burn and LOP operations? Thanks
