Received my FAR/AIM book today. Where should I begin? How do you most appropriately use these rules? It’s impossible to memorize everything. I need a map to approach how to best consume and digest this monster text. I assume most courses teach everything necessary in the rules without requiring...

    CFI Initial Write-up 01/06

Why do you have to be so judgmental? Not every biker on probation is hauling meth. It could have been cocaine.

    Let the crazy begin...

Oh boy. I’m really into long distance road rally-riding. This summer I’m doing an 11-day 11,000 mile road trip. I was on an FJR-1300 until I hit a deer in Montana a year ago. Broke my leg, destroyed the bike. Got a new ‘18 Goldwing, still have (another) FJR. There’s a few dirt bikes in the...

Correct...ish. CFI is $45/hr. I didn’t include that because I was really interested in the thoughts of POA regarding the specific planes. However you are correct, there is a bit more per hour when the instructor is included.

Please explain why you suggest the Cherokee 140. What do you like about it? One of the pros and cons, especially compared to these other planes?

    Let the crazy begin...

So the training company that I’ve been talking with has the following planes, and they keep an extra set of functioning planes (doubles) at another airport with CFIs at that facility as well (they train out of both). The second airport is about 25 miles south of the first airport. They are...

    Let the crazy begin...

LOL I’ve seen others say that same phrase here at POA and honestly couldn’t figure out what it meant. The context was off so I had no clues. No alcohol for me in 30 years.

    Let the crazy begin...

Guys, great info here. Keep it up! I haven’t made my final decision but spoke to a group today. They service out of two airports, have two of the same planes (they carry doubles of all planes and have around 10-12 planes total), use a TCO and syllabus, they utilize multiple instructors who pick...

    Let the crazy begin...

Because of my schedule, I Am looking to study under FAR 61, doing all of the “ground school” essentially on my own. I’ve read a handful of reviews here for online and book learning stuff. And personally tend to learn better after having done the reading on my own, and then utilizing a mentor...

    Let the crazy begin...

I have several options in terms of finding a CFI. There are several local airports, all of which have some instructors. If any of you are local and have some insight, I would love to hear it. My local airports: Provo Municipal Airport (KPVU), controlled since 2005. 2 asphalt runways. Elevation...

First post, new guy here. A little introduction, and then some thoughts. I turn 45 next month, and I’ve decided getting my PPL is going to be my birthday present to myself. Married 20 years, have five kids. Favorite hobbies are motorcycles and SCUBA. My wife says I only choose expensive...
