Anyone fly in to Augusta during Masters week?

Just got back and it was an absolute @#$&show. At some point both Augusta airports were closed to new arrivals and planes were diverting to Aiken and Columbia. On Friday, the wait to take off from Augusta was up to three hours.

I’m sure I’m being dense, but what is a “fam flight?” Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

How Many Cessna 182s Were Produced?

Does anyone have any information on how many Cessna 182s were produced by model? My Google skills are letting me down on this one, as I get conflicting information. Probably a bridge too far, but I’d anyone know how many of each model are still flying, that would be awesome, too.

Any tips for high DA engine starts?

I see all kinds of advice on how to lean for takeoff at high density altitude (in this case 7,000+ feet). My question is do you adjust the mixture when starting the engine? It seems that if you left the mixture full rich, it would be too rich to support combustion. Any tips for High DA engine...

    Searching the NSTB db

It’s just terrible. A classic example of a government project designed to make things “better” that has precisely the opposite effect. There is a tab at the top of the page (not at all obvious, though) that allows you to do an advanced search by adding lots and lots of search parameters. It’s...

    Question for C-182 Pilots

My 182Q flies just as you describe. Pretty docile overall. Much tamer than the 172N I learned in.

    GFC600 Aural Alerts

I have a GFC 600 and there are only two verbal alerts as far as I know. One is when the autopilot engages because it senses the aircraft is outside a preset envelope of flight attitudes for a period of time and the other for minimum speed. The only other aural alerts are a “bee-boop” sound...

    Panel power with engine off

I’m new to having a glass panel and know precious little about avionics and electrical systems, so this may be an obvious question, but how do you supply power to a glass panel (so that you can install database updates, configure screens, etc.) with the engine off? Can you just put a trickle...

Do you use flight following? if so how and when do you choose to use it?

I always use flight following for a couple of reasons. First, I like having the extra set of eyes looking out for me. I can't tell you the number of times ATC has pointed out someone that I probably would not have seen. I've actually had two instances that required evasive action. Second, I...

    Dashed cyan line on GTN750

Found it. It’s called Track Vector and it can be adjusted under the setting called Track Vector Length which is in the Map Menu under Map Setup. It shows where the plane will be in a given period of time (e.g. 1 minute, 2 minutes, 10 minutes etc.)

    Dashed cyan line on GTN750

Please forgive me if this has been asked and answered, but can anyone tell me what the dashed cyan line is on the map view on the GTN750. It looks like it is some sort of indicator that will tell you how far you will be in a certain amount of time, but I can’t find any way to configure it. Any...

Strongest Crosswind I ever landed in...(VIDEO)

Great video. I appreciate the thoughtful and humble way you approach aviation. Walking through the decision making process is really beneficial to students and low-time pilots. Heck, any pilot. Also, your skills as a visual story teller are fantastic and we get to enjoy the result. Thanks!

How many Cessna 182’s are still flying?

Thanks again. Reminds me of recent "improvements" to the NTSB Aviation Accident Database. They took something that previously had useful and easy to use and made it unusable.

How many Cessna 182’s are still flying?

Thanks. Maybe it’s just my iPad, but the way the data is formatted on the FAA website, I couldn’t figure it out. When I ran the query, it showed the number of aircraft in each state by each model (182A through 182T). Looks like getting a total will require adding up close to 1000 lines of...

How many Cessna 182’s are still flying?

Anyone know right offhand how many Cessna 182’s are still in the fleet? I’d also be interested to know comparative numbers for other high performance singles if there is a ready source you can point me to. Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the delayed response. There is a link for feedback on their landing page. When you click it, it allows you to email safti@ntsb.gov The link is in the box on the right side of the page and it says “Feedback” https://www.ntsb.gov/pages/carol.aspx I encourage everyone to write to to...

    Airport codes?

When I was growing up in the 1960’s and 1970’s and on into the 80’s and 90’s, you had to dial the area code if you made a long distance call to another area code. Not so within the area code, but definitely outside of your own area code. And, yes, they were dialable on rotary phones. We did...
