New Cirrus flying club forming at Marion C17 in Eastern Iowa

Mike Much and I are starting a new Cirrus flight and social club at the Marion C17 airport in Eastern Iowa called Executive Aero Flight Club. The market demand is strong for a Cirrus club in the area, and momentum is growing fast! We had our first open house and grill out in our hangar last...

ATP CTP Training in a CRJ700 at FlightSafety International

We had several instructors throughout the week. The first instructor was exactly as you say - story time and spending all day covering just a few hours of material. Later in the week, however, we had a CRJ700 instructor from ExpressJet and she was incredible. She was very thorough, took the...

ATP CTP Training in a CRJ700 at FlightSafety International

This year one of my goals as a pilot and instructor is to complete my ATP training. The first step in becoming an ATP rated pilot is to complete the ATP CTP training. Since FlightSafety International in Atlanta, GA offers this course with 10 hours of level D sim time in a CRJ700, I knew this was...

Departing Atlanta Hartsfield in a Bonanza

In my case, Vinton VTI. Whenever I see 18 wheelers on the ramp I know to stay far far away.

Departing Atlanta Hartsfield in a Bonanza

I have not been into PDK and my flight into RYY was early in the morning, but its probably not a fair comparison to compare ATL to PDK or RYY. With ATL (at least arriving IFR), approach has a long time to plan for your arrival and sequence you in through the arrival procedure and sequence you...

Departing Atlanta Hartsfield in a Bonanza

Great question. I’m not sure what it is about Atlanta but I found it to be much less stressful than other busy airports I’ve been too like Teterboro and Chicago Midway. I think the main difference was that I was quite certain what my runway and taxi route would be, where as at Chicago Midway...

Departing Atlanta Hartsfield in a Bonanza

Thanks! If you’ve ever watched Martin Pauly’s videos, you’ll know I have a lot to learn from him. He’s been to almost every class B airport in the US and made a video about it.

Departing Atlanta Hartsfield in a Bonanza

$310 sounds high but a lot of big cities have parking garages that charge $50-$60 / day to park a car, so any time I can park an airplane in a major city for less than it costs to park a car, I view it as a good deal.

Departing Atlanta Hartsfield in a Bonanza

Last week I had the opportunity to take my ATP CTP training at FlightSafety International in Atlanta, Georgia. Since the Signature FBO at ATL is just a short 5 minute walk to FlightSafety and my hotel, I thought...why not just fly my Beech Bonanza into Atlanta Hartsfield for the week? The fees...

P-51 Mustang Ride with legendary pilot Doug Rozendaal

I noticed that too. The ground is extremely saturated from all the snow, and risk of flooding is high all over Iowa.

P-51 Mustang Ride with legendary pilot Doug Rozendaal

Doug is based at MCW. The Third Thursday fly-in is open to the public and you are more than welcome to come to the next one in April. Grills usually fire up around 6PM.

P-51 Mustang Ride with legendary pilot Doug Rozendaal

What a day yesterday. Started off pretty terrible: furnace broke, stress at work, and a trip that I had spent 5 months preparing for nearly fell through. I was pretty beat down but decided that I would still fly with a student to Mason City MCW for the monthly Third Thursday fly-in. Then while...

I have been to Spencer once for a transponder repair. I have heard they do very nice panels also.
