    ILS Course Setting

Hi, I've noticed in some recent approach practicing that the GTN 750 Xi in my airplane loads course degrees on the ILS off by around 2 degrees to what is charted on the plate sometimes (sending it to a G5). My question is two-parted: 1. Given how ILS signals work, does the course setting...

Have You Experienced An Engine Failure?

figured lol just heard a students first solo while out today. As to your concerns though I stand by what’s been said here. While it’s important to plan for, total engine failures are a lot less likely than partial engine failures. Also brief every takeoff. At PDK taking off from 3R my plan if I...

2 killed in South Carolina Crash

https://www.heraldonline.com/news/business/article241914211.html My premature guess is night illusions causing too low approach? 1/4 mile off runway coming in to land. Any other details you guys have?

Can you ID my late grandpa’s plane?

Just go comment something on a few other posts. It’s an annoying feature to avoid any spam on inappropriate pictures on here. But don’t worry we’ll be able to help!

Flight school with or without simulator

Honestly can’t state the value of training out of a busy airport. I learned out of a super busy delta but right after I got my private felt comfortable going into a Bravo for a full stop solo, something I don’t think you would get if you training out of a private field. Yes, you will get the...

    2019 - Year in Review

Great year for me aviation wise. Started the year with getting my IR in February. Have been trying my hardest to put it to use and have gotten 40 actual hours since then so I’m happy with it! Had the chance to fly aerobatics in an extra 300, which was probably the highlight of my Aviation...

    Instrument Checkride Passed!

if you buy sporties for ground I wouldn’t recommend buying Sheppard air also unless written tests is a major weakness of yours. Sporties test prep prepared me super well for both ppl and ifr written exams.

Best plane for both aerobatics and cross country flying

Would recommend looking into the RV planes for sure. The RV 3,4,7/7A,8/8A, and 14/14A all are aero capable.

    Who else loves short field???

First off I absolutely agree that short field takeoffs are fun and exciting. However on a slightly darker note they are also notably more dangerous (well mostly takeoffs assuming you don’t float down the whole runway refusing to go around). Short field takeoffs give way less room for error in...

    Pranks

Just out of curiosity, how many people here not from Maryland know what old bay is? also sure would put it directly on ice-cream, but I have had old bay flavored ice-cream that really wasn’t that bad.

What do you know now that you didn't know when you got your ticket?

    1. IFR proficiency wears off WAY faster than you’d think. Seriously, go shoot practice approaches. File IFR even on a VFR day if it’s been a while and ask for an approach even if it’s not logable. It helps. 2. Do not fly into IMC with any sort of head cold. I felt fine besides being a little...

Ever give someone an intentionally scary ride?

wouldn't say I given a "scary flight", but i did nearly scare my older sister to death (intentionally) once. 172 G1000 makes a super obnoxious alarm with autopilot disconnect, which alone had scared passengers for a second in the past before I explained what it meant. So taking advantage of...

Checkride coming up, slightly concerned about stall recovery technique

First off I would ask your instructor, but secondly, I do think he’s wrong. There is absolutely zero reason to cut power in a stall. It is 100% correct to say power is not a priority over AoA, but you should not be taking it out. Like in a power off stall I could see the logic behind an...
