So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

it took 8 months with a one month break due to personal issues... the cost is all inclusive, tests medical, supplies etc. I trained out of KGUC, 7700' elevation, and flew a 182, so yeah, costs were a bit more than a 172/150

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Just did a quick sum of costs, and hours... 73.7 hrs 47 flights 216 landings 25 hours solo (much of it just fun time!) $15,356! You know, there are cheaper routes, but I wouldn’t trade anything in the world for this experience. I had the most amazing instructor, every flight in the Rocky...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Oh my, it finally happened. Friday I took the written, Saturday afternoon my CFI called up and said “short notice, but I can get you a check ride on Tuesday or you will have to wait another three weeks!” So 2.5 days of cramming and flying and it happened. Had my check ride today and am now...

    First X country trip

    First solo for me

Very nice! Solos are a mixed bag of emotions... I talked out loud through everything, my most intense emotion had nothing to do with fear, it just felt lonely without my CFI to bump shoulders with...

    solo! Plus great video

Got delayed a week due to cfi family emergency, but got it knocked out today! P.s. awesome CFI! Cutting the tails off my late Grandpa's shirt. He was a lifelong pilot and very inspirational!

    First solo completed today!

Nicely done! Looking forward to mine next week down here at KGUC (Gunnison). Did a bunch of t&g’s today and changed up the runways. It is definitely good to mix them up, too much of the same approach’s and you forget to think about your radio calls.

    How many landings before solo?

I’m definitely not concerned with number of landings or how many hours, I was just curious! I really am in no rush. If I fly with my instructor it’s just another $50/ hr... After I get my ppl it’s still $160 to rent the plane just to enjoy some flight time. So to me the certificate, while...

    Carb Ice Discussion

I’m a student at 17 hrs and every morning we go up we need carb heat right at start up, and taxi, and usually run up... I find that chart humorous since most mornings we fly out it’s about -10f or so, that chart doesn’t show any ice below 10/10. We fly a 182P and carb heat is used more than...
