Does the >150NM Solo Cross Country require 3 landings at controlled airfields? Is my CFI wrong??

Over 1100 hours dual given and I have never had a single student get their log book signed by someone at the airport. I have never even heard of this.

    Richard McSpadden Crash

Two observations... 1. It doesn't really matter who is PIC if the other front seat occupant panics and grabs the controls. Not saying that is what happens, but if one of them locked up and the other couldn't get them off the controls, at low altitude, you wouldn't have much time. 2. From all...

Big Rant. 100 Hours in and no solo. Need any advice.

    (d) Maneuvers and procedures for pre-solo flight training in a single-engine airplane. A student pilot who is receiving training for a single-engine airplane rating or privileges must receive and log flight training for the following maneuvers and procedures: (1) Proper flight preparation...

    Student Keeps Getting Motion Sickness

Thanks for the insights guys. My student and I have both reviewed the responses and are formulating a plan moving forward to do our best to get him over the hump. I am pretty big on looking out the window. I have found that if you can get them to look out the window and watch their pitch, they...

    Student Keeps Getting Motion Sickness

Thanks for all the replies. I had never seen this, so I didn't really have a timeline on how long it can take to get over. He seems to only get sick we we are doing high altitude stuff (stalls/steep turns). He has never had an issue we when stay in the pattern and do touch and goes. He was...

    Student Keeps Getting Motion Sickness

I am a CFI with about 1200 hours of dual given, and I have never seen this problem before. He is about 20 years old and in good health, holding a 1st class medical. He has about 12 hours TT now and on about 50% of flights, he gets sick and we have to land. On three occasions, he has actually...

    Straight in

This is simple...when you do straight in approaches, just always say you are doing a practice RNAV to a full stop. But seriously, the guys who ALWAYS get in my way at the airport are the ones that MUST either do a teardrop or 45 downwind entry. This is why pattern entry's are guidelines and not...

    Anyone Flying a Velocity V-Twin?

Are they axial turbines? Most of the smaller ones I have seen on drones and high end RC are centrifugal style. They are cheaper to build, but have a higher fuel burn.

    Anyone Flying a Velocity V-Twin?

I have never heard a turbine start so quickly. It must have internals with pretty low mass to get them to spin up like that.

    CFI initial questions

I can't draw to save my life either. So I found a 3 sided drawing of a 172 and broke it down into parts in Photoshop and blew them up to 24". I figure eventually I may print them large and laminate them to use dry erase markers on. Until them, I just printed them out on notebook paper and...

    CFI initial questions

I just finished mine about 3 hours ago! 1. We were going to do two pretty basic maneuvers. Level turns and Climbing turns. It sounds easy, but there are a lot of mechanics that go into those maneuvers. She could dive into my knowledge of basic aerodynamics and how everything works together...

    Limitations of Discovery Flight?

The good news is that atleast the guy is getting introduced early to the perpetual screw job if he does start flying.

    Limitations of Discovery Flight?

Cool. That is what I am looking for. Do you happen to have a link or something that I can reference? I cannot find anything official.

    Limitations of Discovery Flight?

I've never seen a intro flight get all the TSA info needed to check citizenship to give flight instruction. You can't legally give instruction without seeing all that, keeping a copy and writing the endorsement. People just show up, shake hands and go take the flight...It has to be legal, but...

    Limitations of Discovery Flight?

That opens a whole other can of worms. Sightseeing tours must be within 25 miles of the airport, which isn't that much of a problem. The issue is that it requires a letter of authorization from the FSDO. I don't know any flights schools I have been to that have them. If you do consider it a...

    Limitations of Discovery Flight?

I have looked in the FAR and online and can't seem to find and FAA definition/restrictions of introduction/discovery flights. A few things come to mind. I have heard that a person can only have one in their life, that way you get a once time pass to skirt the 135/common carriage issues. Also...

    Aviation Youtube Personality Income

I was wondering that also. Technically if Youtube is producing income for you and you set it up as a business, could you deduct the cost of operating your own aircraft and your trips?!
