    Piper Comanche 400......Thoughts?

Fred, Tom, we had 3 beech Queenairs with the Excalibur conversion that had these engines. I've overhauled four of them. We needed a crank in 1998 for one and it was $12k as removed. Aircraft specialties turned it and we had 13k in it by the time we put it in. That was 20 years ago. The Queen...

Well everybody ELSE can make a left turn, why can't you???

I fly in NY center and actually into DCA with a waiver in an "all weather" aircraft. I see too many pilots freak out when the radar (especially XM nexrad) is showing orange or red. ATC will always allow slight deviation left or right for intense build ups. Otherwise grow a pair, tell the pax to...

    Chances for oldtimer learner

A friend and I partnered in a airplane and hired a CFI to run us through 35 years ago. Today, I recommend finding a flying club to join ($500) plus monthly dues and hourly rate for the plane. Someone in that club will be or know a CFI willing to work for cash and get you through the process...

    New PA28 AD

Jim, do you happen to be in Oshkosh this weekend? I'm near Madison and want to buy you 2 beers. You and I are the old time rule knowers and have a duty to teach the young guys the truth. You know, STCs TSOs and field approvals. I'm so tired of book boys that won't actually use common sense...

    Fuel Fittings - Thread Sealant

"I wonder how many guys who replied actually have built or installed an aircraft fuel system? I know a couple of the pro mechanics have and some of their replies have me scratching my head." Okay so here is a shot of my 20 year old can!

    Fuel Fittings - Thread Sealant

Not to beat a dead horse but, NPT is not specific to AN fittings: National Pipe Thread Taper (NPT) is a U.S. standard for tapered threads used on threaded pipes and fittings. In contrast to straight threads that are found on a bolt, a taper thread will pull tight and therefore make a fluid-tight...

    Cessna fuel sender and fuelsenders.com

Yikes! I've had a 1957 C172 for 35 years. Paid $8K for it and Avemco wanted $1000 a year for full coverage back then. Figured I could not wreck it for 8 years so opted for $150 liability only. It's up to $260 per year now. With your premiums vs mine, I guess I'm $70K ahead! Thanks for the smile...

    Fuel Fittings - Thread Sealant

Yep, pipe threads were designed to seal themselves. Fuel lube (ez-turn) gets to the torque better. Continental advises #2 permatex with 00 silk thread for case halves FWIW.

    ADS-B Practicalities

I won't be putting ADS-B in my personal plane for a long time. Last time I was above 10.5 was crossing Lake Michigan in a 172 a month ago. Waste of fuel in my opinion for 10 minutes less wet footprint.

    ADS-B Practicalities

And for Gods sake, don't go near an airport with aircraft without transponders or electrical systems! Guess we won't see you at the pancake breakfast this Sunday.
