I just got my 3 blade McCauley back from the shop with almost the same identical hours on it. Same plane R182. The seals started to leak. Fortunately mine had no wear and all ways good accept the seals.

School me please. My limited understanding of electricity is switch on or switch off.. Is a battery minder specific to a brand of battery i.e. concord vs Gill. If not, why does my $$$$ aviation specific battery charger have a dip switch specific to my battery brand..and it must be set correctly...

Possibly true. I receive error messages on some of my choices of destination..generally come from the boss lady though

I thought my POH stated as you posted above. I don't have it with me now. But it seemed, if I remember correctly, that the battery voltage continued to drop when I attempted to provide power through the external power port and I powered on the avionics.

So if I want to update databases, mess with the avionics etc for a long period of time I must use a battery tender or similar to keep my battery charged in my ‘79 R182? I think I answered my on question

Hoping for a better outcome. I replaced / rebuilt the power pack, motor, pressure switch and selector valve about two years ago.

If all goes as planed, she'll be on jacks tomorrow morning.

So on the nose gear of the R182 there are three switches Squat Switch, Nose Gear Down Switch (located on the actuator) and Up Switch. Why a down switch and a squat switch?

You are correct. Down is a whole lot better than up. That’s why on second attempt to retract and finding the “at hand” items to be OK I returned to the airport and landed. Gladly I was able to look at a complete airplane:D
