SoCal Pilots: Where do you find non-ethanol mogas?

I think San Carlos KSQL has it on field. But it's a huge problem here in CA. There dozens of Rotax LSA and experimental in Sourthern California, including those coming out of the Sling factory at KTOA, the Pipestrel school at KFUL, the two schools at KSNA that fly LSA etc. They are all forced...

    Lost alternator in IMC

I have always gotten the 100hr and annual done, and this is at a "big" class C airport that services commercial jets etc. And yet many other pilots have had them fail at least once during their flying careers. And if not the alternator then the MCU.

    Lost alternator in IMC

Thanks for sharing the event 3Y3flyer. The same thing happened to me and really spooked me for a couple months afterwards. The theory on how to handle the emergency is not too hard, but with the family on board, navigating to an emergency airport and getting the plates out while flying the...

    Rotax 912 Avgas

Maybe it's an insurance issue like you said. It's just frustrating that after so many years of LSA and Rotax it's still virtually impossible to get mogas on field. I had a CTLS for a year and just got sick of trying to sneak 5 gallon tanks onto the field and then lug them up onto the wing etc...

    Rotax 912 Avgas

Thanks for the info. There are lots of rotax LSA in Southern California (many even at KSNA), so I guess people are just dealing with the frequent oil changes and using Avgas.

    Rotax 912 Avgas

I know that there is info on the web about using avgas part time in the rotax, and changing oil every 25 hours etc. But since there is NO mogas available at any Southern California airports, the FBO's block new companies from moving in and selling it, and big aiports suchs as KSNA, KLGB, etc...

    Sliding Canopy

Any thoughts on the safety of a sliding canopy for a small, single engine piston low wing plane? At first glance, it would seem that planes like the Sling 2 and Tecnam Astore would offer some advantages, but it's not clear. Specifically, for off-field landings or ditchings, is there any...

    For Sale FlyThisSim for sale

Anybody tried ordering one of these sims lately? Seems like FlyThisSim is taking money but not delivering. At least two have posted elsewhere that money taken but then nothing delivered even after many months with excuses about supply chain, new location, etc.

    Difficult climb

I Just wanted to say thanks for all the replies. I am aware of the rules and regs and will keep ATC in the loop. But it is interesting that if I climb at Vy (80kts for me) the rate is almost unbearable above 9000. But a brief level off to get up to 120, followed by a standard climbing pitch...

    Difficult climb

When given an IFR climb to higher altitudes and experiencing a very poor climb rate / difficulties, is it acceptable to level off for 3 minutes, gain some speed, and then resume the climb? I have found that on a continuous climb, my single engine piston struggles above 10k on a continuous...
