    MA44 Tradewind airport Martha’s Vineyard

I am here on the island for Christmas and just found out about Tradewind airport, owned by the Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank. It requires prior permission, but that is available via a web form on their website. No overnight parking, but a cool grass airstrip right in Oak Bluffs nonetheless...

FDA issues full approval for Pfizer COVID vaccine - does that change any opinions?

https://www.fda.gov/news-events/press-announcements/fda-approves-first-covid-19-vaccine So now that there is a COVID-19 vaccine that has gone through the full FDA approval process, does that make any differences for the opinions and actions of not-yet-vaxxers? I know that my local university...

Dye Penetrant Crack detection in props

With the talk about dings and nicks in propellers, do AP/IA regularly, or ever, use dye penetrant testing on a propeller? It seems to be quick, easy, and better than eyes for hairline cracks. With that said, is there anything preventing an owner from spending $50 for a set of the chemicals and...

Goodspeed 42B Young Pilots fly in

Quoted from their website because I am lazy - August 20th-22nd "This summer, Young Pilots USA will be hosting its first ever annual fly-in event! Located at Goodspeed Airport (42B) in East Haddam, CT, it'll be a weekend full of flying fun right on the Connecticut River. Pilots and the general...

    Partial Power Best Glide/range speed

We are taught about normal operations and engine out emergency operations, but what about partial power operations? I have had a partial power emergency where my C150 had less power than required to remain aloft and I was 10 miles from an airport with dense forest or houses as the other...

    Air cooling and humidity.

Does humidity affect the amount of heat that can be removed from an engine with our air cooled engines? It certainly affects me, but we humans use evaporative cooling, not aluminum fins. However, does the extra water in the air allow it to absorb more heat per liter than dry air?

    Greatest speed per engine HP

Beat this - 5.83mph/hp. Equivalent for a Cessna 150 would be 583 mph!

    3d printed inconel turbo exhaust

Probably still cheaper than a stock airplane exhaust from Textron. Amazing what is out there these days and what we can't use. But maybe a homebuilder would be able to use this process.

    Frozen trim

I have a 1966 C150f. One time recently I flew and must have had a drop of water in the trim push rod bushing that comes out of the elevator. Everything was working on the ground, as temps were just over freezing, but after 20 minutes and 5000’ later, the trim was now completely frozen and...

Alternator warning light - Cessna 150

How does the Alternator warning light in a Cessna 150F work? I am putting in a new radio (with AP blessing) and found out that the wire going from my Alternator warning light (just a simple red light, not anything special) was cut off just past the firewall. So it has been inactive all this...

Name this weird cloud formation (and tell me how it will kill me)

At 16:10. Does not look like a thunderstorm formation. Some sort of frontal system? Sure seems like a massive updraft, but not cumulus updraft formation. Could you ride the front of that wave up and over? (Not that I think that is a smart thing).

    Handheld airbag/crash protection

I know that there are seatbelt airbags now, but apart from that system, is there any device that we can have in the airplane that can be held in front of the Pilot/Passenger to cushion a crash? Some crashes are so sudden and violent that there is no hope (stall/spin on takeoff, CFIT, etc)...

Cessna 150 pitot tube placement - bent?

Can anyone send me a diagram with measurements of the pitot tube of a 1966 Cessna 150F? Mine may have gotten bent out of place and I want to check to see if it is still in the correct orientation/angle/etc. I remember seeing a document diagraming the exact placement of the fuel vent, so I am...

Declared Emergency today - first flight with family

Pardon the quick writing, just 3 hours after emergency with family, did well, need dinner Cessna 150F, wife and 3 year old in my brand new installed rear child seat on first family trip. Engine immediately started surging 500-2000rpm partial power at 2500' over CT mountains. No slow decrease...

    M3007 impulse coupling wanted

Anyone have a spare M3007 Slick mag impulse coupling? I am getting the run around on my annual inspection and after having my mags overhauled, the impulse coupling is bad. Won't go into the whole details, but would have been cheaper if the mechanic just bought an overhauled unit direct from...

    Monmouth Jet Center KBLM

Shout out to the Monmouth Jet Center at KBLM for welcoming my little old C150 to the ramp next to multimillion dollar jets. Yes, there was a $20 landing fee, but waived with 10 gal fuel purchase. And there was no issue with my 9.4 gallon top off since my tanks are small that that was all that...

    First time Presidential TFR tips

So I finally have a trip planned that is impacted by a VIP TFR. FDC 9/5190 ZNY covers Fishers Island 0B8 tomorrow from 10:30-4:15. It is my first dedicated trip with my 3 year old son, who is doing great in my C150 alone with me as my co-pilot. I have taken him back and forth to Albany to the...

    Cessna 150 rear child seat

I figured that I bare my soul and admit that I bought a rear child seat for my 150f. Finally found a Cessna seat on eBay (as opposed to the AvFab versions), called my AP/IA to see if he would install it. He said that there is a 150 in the next hanger over that has one so he can look at that...

    Cessna 150 Rotax Conversion

Has anyone else seen that there is a certified Rotax 912 available for the C150 lineup? Not sure if it actually beats the O-200 in cost, but I could see going with one of the slightly larger FI models in the future if they get them certified as well. Kinda like a 150/150 conversion...
