    Crazy Club Rates?

I agree. I look at these monthly rates and would rather throw the $$ at a Piper Cub and a parking spot in a hangar. Sure, it's primitive, but it'd be MINE.

UPDATE: Forums ... Pilot Training I’m starting my flight training but I’m scared of dying.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who has these thoughts. I love aviation, but every time it's my day to go flying, whatever day it happens to be, I tell myself "Don't screw up. No dying allowed on (insert day of week here)."

    Crazy Club Rates?

The club in my area wants a $3000 one-time registration fee (includes Cirrus Transition Material). Then $300 a month. The least expensive Cirrus SR22 is $225 per hour. The other option is the Backcountry option with a $1500 registration fee and a $150 a month rate. You have access to a Husky...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Flew my first x-country last week with my instructor. Probably one more leg and then I'll be scheduling a solo x-country. Once the short and long x/c's are done, it's some night flying and then just wrapping up, passing the written (amazing how the stuff you read falls out of your head in such...

    First solo for me

I seemed to make stupid errors while my instructor was with me. Found myself forgetting little things I normally dont. Nerves, I guess. Once I was by myself, I knew I had to cut that crap out, especially when the wheels left the ground and I was on my own..

    First solo for me

Well, I just completed my first solo flight.. My adventure started back in late September 2017. I work full time, and between that schedule and the weather dumping on some of my scheduled flying days (and/or giving me extra special bonus experience in x-wind landings), I finally arrived at the...

    First Solo!!!

Congratulations! I'm in the pre-solo phase of my training. My instructor says probably one more lesson and they're going to schedule me for a pre-solo progress check and if all goes well, schedule the solo itself. Its one of those things that creates excitement and trepidation concurrently...

    How old is/was your CFI?

Mine's 48. So he's just a few years older than me. Former Navy pilot. Flew EA-6B's and F-18's. Super chill guy and a gifted pilot. I always feel 100% safe in the air with the man.

I keep telling myself that, too..

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

I'm 14 hours in and now it's pattern work and landing practice.. Can't seem to catch a break with the weather as regards wind (ah, Springtime). Two weeks ago, it was 14 knot winds down the runway, and since it wasn't X-wind, we went anyway.. Got in 5 landings before I had completely sweated...

    Flight training once per week

Fly what your budget and schedule will allow. With my schedule, I get to fly every other week. I'm doing just fine. If it takes me a little longer, or costs a little more, oh well. I knew it wasn't a cheap hobby when I got into it, and I'm not about to back out and not learn to fly simply...

    To cold to fly....

Went flying for a lesson last Friday at 25 degrees F. The C-152 protested, but finally started. Went flying for an hour and froze my freaking rear off.. Only after we landed did the instructor realize he'd pulled the wrong lever and opened the fresh air vent, while leaving the cabin heat off..

    Question about school

I manage to get 2-3 lessons in per month. In a perfect world, I'd be able to go once a week or more, but since I can't seem to stop squandering my hard-earned wages on food and heat, I have to work for a living which cuts into my schedule. A job is so inconvenient. :D Anyway, I'm diligent...

    Frustrations of a CFI

You teach 7th graders? OMG, do they give you combat pay for that? Jokes aside, I have nothing but respect for school teachers. I'm 43 and I still remember my favorite and.... not so favorite teachers from school. I had a history teacher in High School who was so fantastic that I took a...

    Frustrations of a CFI

This country could learn much from Germany, which is one of the world leaders in vocational education and cranks out some of the best engineers in the world. They offer excellent earn-as-you-learn opportunities and as a result managed to keep youth unemployment significantly lower than the rest...
