Ugly plane good engine or good looking plane that needs overhaul?

The M20E with the ugly paint job and Lycoming OH is already pending. So no point in considering it in the mix unless it falls out for some reason.

    Oil Analysis - Lycoming O-320-E2D - Opinions?

I didn't proceed with the purchase. I did find another plane yesterday with a more recent Penn Yann overhaul that's been flying often as part of a flight club. It's more expensive by ~$10K of course, but I'll be flying behind a newer engine with fewer hours and another 10 hp, which never hurts...

    Oil Analysis - Lycoming O-320-E2D - Opinions?

Everything is ~double with PA28's pre-2020. This plane seems fairly priced for the market, but it's still not priced for a rebuild. I checked and with my local shop it'll be around $33K if the crank and case are good. This plane is probably $13K-$15K overpriced if it needs a full overhaul, in...

    Oil Analysis - Lycoming O-320-E2D - Opinions?

I've been trying to purchase a PA28 for about a month. I've been through two prebuys with issues each time. But, I kept on and found one that made sense for my budget and mission, but the plane sat for 18 years from 2003 - 2021. Since then, someone bought it and put it back into service...

For Sale: Aircraft Tampa, FL area partnership wanted

Thanks for the replies, unfortunate that the Archer sold. Salty - I'm not in the market for a twin and I'm not rated MEL.

For Sale: Aircraft Tampa, FL area partnership wanted

Ah, sorry I was a little dense there. That seems like a good deal on an Archer so equipped unless it needs the big three. If you don’t mind sending me the owner’s contact info, I’ll follow up.

For Sale: Aircraft Tampa, FL area partnership wanted

    S. FL being Miami? A bit far from Tampa, no?

For Sale: Aircraft Tampa, FL area partnership wanted

Must be thinking of a different partnership, but sounds like they have a 500 hr. min on the open pilot clause in their insurance, which is somewhat common for retracts. The one I'm thinking of one of the partners is sub 200 hrs.

For Sale: Aircraft Tampa, FL area partnership wanted

What wasn't right about the Mooney? Too high a share price? The costs in Pinellas Co. aren't great. Hangars are expensive, even shade hangars. The fuel is expensive there. Insurance going up doesn't help that calculus. ZPH is your best bet locally, but it's a long drive to get out there.

For Sale: Aircraft Tampa, FL area partnership wanted

Yes, same one at clw. It's a nice O/H on the engine and a clean plane overall. There's a couple of guys at Albert Whited with a 1/4 share in a M20J for $20K if that interests you, I will try to dig up their contact info. I don't believe they'll offer it to you if you're working on your private...

For Sale: Aircraft Tampa, FL area partnership wanted

No, technically. Recently found a guy renting an Arch-Warrior at a slightly better rate than the FBOs. No up front costs though.

Most reliable vehicle you've owned vs least reliable

Most: 2007 Honda Civic - not much to go wrong and what little did, I caused Least: 1985 Dodge Lancer - needed two new engines in its relatively short lifespan, neither of which lasted more than 40k miles, followed closely by any other Chrysler or dodge small or mid-sized sedan myself or my...

Purchase Cessna 150 or Cherokee 140?

PA28-140 is an airplane that can be used for 2-up travel or 3-up in a pinch. C150 is usually not, at least not 2-up with anything more than a toothbrush. If your mission is going to be to fly as economically as possible solo, or with the occasional buddy around the local area, go with the...

Venting some fusterations and possible ideas/solutions

I don't think that flight schools and instructors are rolling in dough or there'd be a lot more of them and their planes would be in better shape. That said, there's no reason you need to train in a 172, unless you can't fit with an instructor in a 150. If one were serious and determined, it'd...

Piper Cherokee 140 With High Engine Time. Worth The Buy?

There's five or six RV-6's on Barnstormers right now for <$50K. They're not the finest examples, but they do exist. There's one high time RV-4 that I've seen for $27K as well in another location.

Piper Cherokee 140 With High Engine Time. Worth The Buy?

For certified, I'd pick an earlier Grumman, which can be had in the low $30K range. If he's open to experimental, an RV-4 or RV-6 are usually attainable at around $40K - 45K. It's not the upfront cost that gets you, it's the maintenance and op. ex. Might as well buy the most capable example...

Piper Cherokee 140 With High Engine Time. Worth The Buy?

Lets see. $15K PA28-140 with 1900 hours. I'm guessing it's the one on Indy Air Sales. It's an all original 1967 version. Less desirable panel in my opinion, given the non-std. layout. Some inop. equipment like the TC I can see that you'll want to rectify. Then, something that hasn't been flown a...
