So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Another solo today. Pretty much same as last time. CFI got out after 2 landings. I did two landings, a go around then a final landing calling it a day. I wanted to stay up longer, but it was way too hot to do so safely (comfortably).

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Finally did my first solo today. After my CFI hopped out three very nice landings and a go around we’re on the menu this afternoon.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Well, today was kind of interesting. Went out did a few crosswind touch and goes, then CFI and I smelled something that might have been hot wiring. Nothing burning, but we both agreed it smelled like electrical. So I sat her down and taxied back while shutting down all electrical. When we...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Finally, after illness and crazy winds, I was able to get back in the cockpit and spend a good hour beating up the pattern. The first few landings were OK, not great but we lived to get back in the air. After that the next 7 were good to great. I believe I'll be doing my first solo sometime...

    New Traffic Pattern Advisory Circular

I was taught to fly 500’ above highest TPA. At the airport I fly TPA is 1000’, TPA for jets is 1500’ so we do overflight at 2000’ for teardrop to enter downwind.

    Unlicensed pilot => jail time....

Or maybe that was another incident I was thinking of.

I remember driving by the airport just after it happened.

I'm Confused. Why So Many Navigation Types?

Luckily, barring any major events, GPS will not be going anywhere anytime soon.

I'm Confused. Why So Many Navigation Types?

eLORAN has been talked about for a long, long time. I seriously doubt it will ever come to anything, but there are a few vocal entities out there still trying to make it happen. I was stationed at CG Navigation Center when we shut LORAN down. Also did my year on Attu Island, AK in the mid '90s.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Yep, went around a few times today too. Last landing was looking really good, lined up over the center line, nice easy descent, good crosswind correction and then at about 25' AGL a nice gust that threw us up and to the right. Luckily my approach speed was a bit faster than normal due to the...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Another day of lessons in the books. Just pattern work with some interesting winds. I don't know why, but I just cannot get really comfortable. I feel like I'm more reactive than I should be. I guess it's just a matter of flying more and starting to anticipate what the plane will do.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Good luck on the written. I'm still studying for mine. I feel your pain with the CFI. I just lost mine to a regional airline job as well. I am happy with the replacement CFI so far (he's young enough to be my son, though).

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Just got back from a day of pattern work. Moderate turbulence coupled with a gusty crosswind made for an interesting day. Did several touch and goes that were surprisingly smooth.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Another lesson in the books today. Just a quick one with a few stalls, simulated engine failure then return to the pattern. The goal was to do a bunch of touch and goes and get my landings and confidence back up to par, but a close-ish call with a bunch of birds when flying back to the...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Back on the subject of flight training. I was able to spend an hour in the pattern yesterday. Kinda windy, 8kts gusting to 20, luckily the winds were varying right down the runway to about 10 degrees off the right. That was the first time I did any landings with wind gusts greater than a few...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

The QT’s are not ANR, no batteries to worry about and no head clamp.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Or QT Halo. I scored a set and love ‘em. First flight with the Halo’s I was setting up and my CFI came out with her Halo’s. If you don’t mind something in your ear, they are great. BTW she said they were quieter than her Bose set.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

I am hoping the weather cooperates tomorrow, unlike the last 2 times I was supposed to fly. I am almost ready for first solo, tomorrow is supposed to be a "stage check" but I don't know if it will work out since I missed the last two.

    pleurodesis / pneumothorax

When I had mine I had a chest tube installed. When released from the hospital they said no flying for 6 months.
