One airframe with both single & twin-engine versions

What airplane has both single and twin-engine versions? It's a light plane, like a Bonanza or something. Or maybe I've dreamed this up.

    Safety wire fuel filter bail?

How many of you safety wire the top ends of the fuel filter bail? Mine had one on it before, but then another A&P who was helping me with a fuel leak ridiculed that, saying all you need to do is bend the bail ends in before reinstalling it. EDIT: I went ahead and ran over to the airport and did...

FARs Regarding Tailwheel Endorsement (is it required?)

Which FARs clarify whether or not a tailwheel endorsement is required if one gets their Private Pilot Certificate in a tailwheel airplane? There is disagreement among some regarding whether or not the endorsement is required in this case.

Separate log entry for each leg in ForeFlight?

I just began using ForeFlight. After my very first flight using it, I noticed it logged that flight's three legs as one log entry. Can I specify that ForeFlight create one log entry per leg? Thanks, Jay

    What tailwheel is this?

What tailwheel is this? Forget the little hubcap I'm holding. It's the wrong one...i.e., not for this tailwheel. By the way, I'm trying to find the correct hubcap. The one I bought is for a Maule. It's definitely the wrong one!

    Building a Hangar

My wife and I recently moved from Tacoma to Moses Lake (western WA to central WA). Why? Well, Tacoma is becoming a complete ****hole, but just as important, Moses Lake Municipal Airport (W20) has lots! So, I'm planning on leasing a lot and building a hangar. Yippee! Anyhoo, just wanted to tap...

    Gathering of Luscombes 2022

Part 1 (Thun Field to Alturas, CA) My usual method of flight planning involves opening Google Maps, switching to the very cool “Terrain View,” and then right-clicking to measure distance, then clicking the end point. I then proceed to look for mountains, valleys, and other terrain features that...

    WTF is Gross Weight?

For many, many, many years, I thought I knew what gross weight meant. Today, however, I was looking at the Wikipedia article for the A-4 Skyhawk, and it says: Gross weight: 16,216 lb (7,355 kg) Max takeoff weight: 24,500 lb (11,113 kg) I wondered how max takeoff weight could be more than gross...

    Question for Controllers

If I want to come in and land, when I first call you, is it adequate to say: Tacoma Tower, Luscombe 1-8-1-3-Kilo, 10 miles to the east at 2,000 with Quebec If I include the weather, does that imply to you that I want to come in and land? I like to be concise. Do I need to say anything other...

Horsepower required for same airspeed at higher altitude

If I need a 75% power setting for max cruise at sea level (say, a 200-HP IO-360, so 150HP), will the same horsepower be required to maintain max cruise (indicated) at 10,000 feet, for example? So, in that case, I believe I would be using full throttle as that would give me about 150 HP, or 75%...

    Field Service Station?

Did Flight Service Stations used to be called Field Service Stations? Like in the mid-20th century?

    Truth or Consequences (KTCS) History

Anyone know the history of Truth or Consequences Municipal Airport? I've e-mailed both the airport manager and T or C librarian and haven't gotten a response.

Thread pitch of altimeter adjustment shaft?

I have a Cessna altimeter and another one out of a Luscombe. They appear to have the same pitch of the shaft onto which the adjustment knob fits. A .5mm thread pitch gage fits pretty well. Someone over on Practical Machinist suggested it might be 4-48, and that I try a 24 TPI gage to see if it...

How to remove lens from altimeter?

How does one remove the lens from an altimeter. I removed the ring from the front and assumed the lens would come right out then, but it doesn't seem to want to.

Inside of firewall: bare, paint, other?

I'm putting a new panel in my Luscombe. While I'm in there with good access, I want to clean up the inside of the firewall. It looks awful now. There was definitely something on it before and it's peeling off now. I want to clean that off and get it looking nicer before getting the new panel put...

How to file a DVFR flight plan in Garmin Pilot?

I'm trying to set up Garmin Pilot to be able to file flight plans. Under the "Flight Rules" option, there are: IFR, VFR, YFR, ZFR, and DC SFRA. Isn't that where there should be a DVFR option? Am I looking in the wrong place?

What ICAO Surveillance selections for Stratus ESGi?

I'm trying to fill out the ICAO Surveillance option in Garmin Pilot and am not sure what to select. It's asking for a "Transponder" selection and an "ADS-B Equipment" selection. Anyone know?

Finding Out Restricted Airspace Status Ahead of Time

I'm planning a flight along the US/Mexico border and am concerned about whether or not I'll be able to fly through R-2301 in Arizona. If it's active at the time I want to pass, it would put a kink in my plans, but we'll see what happens. I asked for some help here and got a few different...
