Need to Fly Again - Seminole, TX

I've recently moved from Maryland (KFDK) to Seminole, TX (KGNC is the local airport). Along with my move I've started a new career, so I've been very busy getting the training needed for the job and learning all I can. However, lost in this process is my flying. I miss it and am having...

    Bad Day around the ADIZ

I totally agree, Ed. If someone didn't know about this TFR and busted it, shame on them. It would seem to me that they failed to obtain a proper briefing from an approved (or quasi-approved) site of their choice. I wasn't flying this weekend for different reasons, but I know I got at least 2...

    Bad Day around the ADIZ

I don't know why, but I get the email alerts quicker from http://www.weathermeister.com/ For the TFR's this weekend, I got the one from weathermeister.com on Thursdayat 11:27am and the one from AOPA on Friday at 4:07pm. I haven't looked back to see if this is typical or not.

    Bad Day around the ADIZ

I haven't looked at the TFR's today, but I believe this was because President Bush left the confines of Camp David (the reason for the expanded P40) and went to Emmitsburg, MD for a ceremony at the National Firefighters' Memorial. I did get my usual emails showing that the TFR for Emmitsburg...

    Lowrance GPS quandry.

I didn't buy it and not sure I would have, but I was fortunate to win 2nd place in this year's Sporty's Skyhawk contest and won the GPS Map 496. It's absolutely amazing!! I'm sort of laid up right now recovering from knee surgery, but as soon as I'm up in the air again, I'll subscribe to the...

    Cessna 172M 40 degree flaps

That afternoon I took my daughter's father-in-law out around the lake there then over toward Pella around west of town - keeping an eye on and avoiding the "scud" that was out west of town. Given the potential of the rain in the area we stayed fairly close to the airport. But earlier, you're...

    Cessna 172M 40 degree flaps

LOL... funny you should mention that! I'm actually considering doing just that. The way the house prices are here in Maryland, I could sell here and make an easy transition to that part of the country. It's amazing too how the prices of things are so much different between here and there. I...

    Cessna 172M 40 degree flaps

Next time I'm out that way, I'll holler - maybe we can meet up and introduce ourselves in person! You're right - it is a close knit community!! My guess is that I'll be out there sooner than later - something about a 1 year old granddaughter pulling at my heartstrings!! :)

    Cessna 172M 40 degree flaps

WOW - it is a small world! I wasn't there for the fly-in itself - I came out later in the day. I brought my daughter's father-in-law out and took him flying. He'd started taking lessons over 20 years ago and accumulated about 25 hours or so, but life got in the way and he never finished up...

This coast guard pilot is amazing

You're absolutely right!! I was stationed on a 180' seagoing buoy tender out of Atlantic Beach, NC ('79-'82) and unfortunately one of our crew members got hurt and had to be medevac'd. The good news is that we were off the coast from Cape Hatteras and a helo from CG Airsta Elizabeth City, NC...

    Cessna 172M 40 degree flaps

My daughter lives in Knoxville and I was renting the plane at the FBO there at OXV. The week I was there last month they had a "fly in" on the Saturday (9/15) and there were a lot of Ercope's there that day. Nice folks there at OXV - very friendly and welcoming!

    Cessna 172M 40 degree flaps

When visiting my daughter recently out in Iowa, I got checked out in and flew the local FBO's 172C. It had the Johnson bar between the seats and 40 degrees of flaps. I've flown the Pipers (Archer, Warrior, and Cherokee) as well as the Cessna 172R and S. I like the manual bar for the flaps...

    Girl Scout Aviation Badge Day

I just participated in a similar event with the Girl Scouts here at FDK. It was sponsored by The Ninety-Nines and hosted at the AOPA headquarters here at the airport. There were several stations the girls rotated through including a "pre-flight" station where I was one of four pilots helping...
