Off airport landing on I985 Gwinnett County GA

Not a lot of details. Flightaware data. Looks like a training flight.

Engines, and planes, are highly overrated.

222.22 miles in a hang glider.

https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2020/05/28/plane-crash-cambridge-ohio-paul-emaus/5273172002/ I didn't see this posted. Pilot died the next day. RIP.

Is this the future of electric flight?

And design. Apparently ailerons and symmetrical wigng design are overrated. The design seems pretty robust, if by 'robust' you mean 'can be fixed with hot glue and tape. Perhaps the perfect bush plane???

    Chainsaw helicopter crash in Georgia

Holy crap...flying <edit> sawblades (not chainsaws)? One pilot who flies and manages the whirling blades? Pilot was alert when taken to the hospital. I wish him the best. Some pics here

The Man Who Fell to the Earth

Bowie did it better... Lesson 1: Carb ice can be insidious. Based on my training, I expected the engine would run rough, I'd pull carb heat, life would be grand. None of that happened. I really don't understand carb ice. Lesson 2: Being lucky is a good thing. Lesson 3: Landing in a pasture is...

I think I did the allowed thing....

But maybe not the smart thing. Un-towered airport. Flying a Skycatcher. I'm doing run up on 23. Citation calls straight in for 05, 10 miles out about the time I finish and get ready to take off. I'm thinking, he's out and not in the pattern, 10 miles...I should be able to take off, turn left...

Finally starting to feel like a pilot

Got my sport cert in June after a bit over a year of training (weather got in the way of the checkride for 5 months of that time). 2 weeks ago I completed a long XC from GVL to DED and back. Total flight time each way was a bit over 4 hours with one pit stop half-way at AZE. While I used GPS...

    Hmmm...my plane doesn't have a flux capacitator...does yours?

OK, so not everyone can be an expert on either aircraft components or old movies, but daaaammmm...shouldn't an editor have caught this? OTOH, this is hilarious.

    AviationWeather.gov off line?

I haven't been able to get the site up all day. I can call my local asos and that's working. According to https://isitdownorjust.me/aviationweather-gov/ the site is down. Weather.gov is up. Just curious if anyone else is having problems. <edit> By 'down' I mean I just get a blank screen, no...

    Suddenly jonesing to own

This is not another 'should I buy <plane x>' thread. I'm looking for help getting information on the process of buying and owning. I just got my Sport Pilot and had no intention of buying; I've got maybe 10 years left before I shouldn't be flying so I figured the cost to own was net less than...

    Looking for KDED advice.

I'll be taking my first long distance XC late August from KGVL to KDED with an arrival time of about noon. I'd like to arrive looking like I know how the locals do things so any advice is appreciated. I'll be coming in from the north in an LSA. I have a copy of the noise abatement procedure and...

Well everybody ELSE can make a left turn, why can't you???

I don't fly into airports with control towers. Is this normal?

Requirements for entering Mode C veil that isn't Class B airspace

KCVC sits inside the ATL Mode C veil but outside of the Bravo airspace. There are a few other airports that are inside the veil but below Bravo. I know you need specific clearance to enter Bravo but am not sure what's required for airports like CVC. I'm excluding any Charley or Delta airports...

    2 chickens and 1 goat

Burnt offerings to Zeus. That's what it took to finally get my check ride day to have weather good enough to fly. After 3 cancellations since Nov 2017, we finally got to do the deed. Apparently, I'm now officially allowed to fly as a Sport Pilot. I can't say enough good things about Lanier...

    TRSA and flight following

I'm planning a long VFR flight to get to my checkride that will take me through a TRSA, just outside of Class D (and well above the top of the Class D airspace). I'm likely to be filing a flight plan and using flight following. I know that communication with the TRSA is not required but our...

Any experience with sport pilot FAA examiners?

I'm on my 3rd cancelled check ride due to weather since Jan. The only DPE in the area books 8 weeks out and already has 7 people on standby so I'm looking at June for my next try so I'm getting desperate to get this done. I've read that the FAA folks tend to be 'by the numbers, exactly by the...
