Can't Submit IACRA for ATP - No Night Total or AMEL Total

Sorry there are two places, AMEL PIC and AMEL SIC. There's unfortunately no Total AMEL, which is what the reg specifies. When I was in training, it was neither PIC nor SIC. But SIC would seem more...appropriate?...to put my dual received time as between the two to satisfy IACRA. I don't like it...

Can't Submit IACRA for ATP - No Night Total or AMEL Total

I have my ATP ride coming up as part of an airline training program. I'm trying to submit my application on IACRA, but the fields appear to be...incomplete. 61.159 specifies 100 hours total night and 50 hours total AMEL, both of which I have. IACRA however only asks for PIC for both of these...

Seeking Advice - Student Asking for Letter for Adderall Usage

Understood, I noticed no issue with that, and he was arguably my best student. Not to mention he was off the medication apparently for 90 days prior to even flying. Curious what the FAA actually wants to know in his particular case, and if my recommendation letter holds any weight at all.

Seeking Advice - Student Asking for Letter for Adderall Usage

I am no longer an active CFI, but recently had one of my former students who passed his PPL and looking to buy an aircraft receive pushback from the FAA regarding his Adderall usage prior to training. If I understand his story correctly he stopped using it 90 days prior to his medical date, but...

    VOR Approach Question

Looking at the KPIE VOR Rwy 4. When I load this into my GTN650 the point FF04 has a hard altitude of 1700ft. If I were doing the procedure turn or otherwise vectored in that area and established on the final approach course, I should be able to descend to 1000 prior to this point right?

What would you do if someone was choking?

Flying along in a 172, nearest airport is 20 miles away, you and a passenger decide to eat a turkey sandwich, hit some unexpected light turbulence, passenger is now choking, what do? Is the only option really slapping on the back as hard as you can, since the heimlich maneuver can't really be...

    Life Jackets for Keys Trip

We’ll probably file to go down and I’m sure link up with one of the airways that goes a bit far into the water. The times I’ve done the trip I’m usually hugged up on the coast goin VFR, but wanted to take the extra precautions this time. The self inflating ones are nice, just wanting to avoid...

    Life Jackets for Keys Trip

Looking for some advice on life jackets. Will be traveling in a 182 with 3 passengers to the keys and would like everyone to wear a life jacket. The time over water will be minimal, but want to be mindful of it. I have 0 knowledge on the topic, but would something like this suffice? Or is it a...

Is this a Cross Country Flight?

Pretty sure I already know the answer, but wanted to verify. I flew helicopters back in the day, and have this flight logged multiple times when I was getting trained. GKT -> MOR -> DKX -> GKT In order to be counted as a XC the flight needs to be more than 25 NM for helicopters. This was about...

Cleared in Bravo if I cancel IFR?

Just to clear some things up: we were going into an uncontrolled field, and yes he cleared us for the approach, and he said he had multiple planes trying to get into our destination so a cancellation asap was appreciated. "Confirm cleared into Bravo to continue approach VFR" is all you needed...

Cleared in Bravo if I cancel IFR?

Interesting situation came up today. We were flying at 2000 feet (outside of the Bravo) nearing the FAF for an approach that would enter the next Bravo shelf inbound starting at 1200 just ahead. The controller was slammed with radio traffic and the fact that we were VMC (but on an IFR plan...

Watching Falcon 9 Launch From Air. Any Issues?

Have a student that wants to go on a XC and watch the Falcon 9 launch tomorrow. The plan is to fly into KCOI first, get some fuel, and then go hang out in the area in red doing some holding patterns around 3000ft prior to the launch. I typically don't hang like hanging around TFR's and...

    How Do I Log This?

Say I’m a CFI and I’m flying with a commercial student. We’ve flown 1.7 hours and at the end of the lesson he wants to shoot an approach or practice general sim instrument stuff for a remaining .3. Since I’m not a instrument instructor and can’t provide the instrument training for commercial...

US Citizenship Verification - What is a "Discovery" Flight?

The school I'm at is getting an increase in the number of transfer students from other areas and there is some confusion about what a discovery flight is and how it applies to the need for 1552.3 US Citizenship verification. A lot of these new students want to do a flight at first before they...

    Airline Pilots and Security

I recently saw a headline that uniforms are now being required to use the KCM checkpoint and how everyone is mad about it. I've always been kind of curious how security access works for pilots who are showing up for work vs those who are commuting vs those who are just traveling for fun...

Why is there a positive charge without engine running?

Thanks for the responses. JonH to answer your question, I had the master on initially to check the lights, flaps, avionics, etc, so there was a significant draw on the main battery. Then it was shutoff and only the standby battery on (pic). http://media.avit.und.edu/c172sElectrical/index.html...

Why is there a positive charge without engine running?

I know it's the ammeter, and a negative value indicates the current being drawn. So that makes sense that 3 amps are being drawn from the standby battery since it's powering the items on the essential bus. However, why is there a positive charge on the main battery if the alternator isn't...

Why is there a positive charge without engine running?

See the pic below: Why is there a positive charge on the main battery when only the standby battery is on (and engine off)? Follow up question, why is the M bus volts showing .3 if the master is off too? Shouldn't it be 0? Thanks!

    DPEs in Tampa Area?

Anyone have any examiners you recommend in the Tampa area? Almost ready to take the commercial checkride and it's becoming a near impossibility to schedule anything around here. Either they are booked solid for months, plane isn't available when they are, or calls aren't being returned. Just...
