    New, 2019 DA42-VI or SR22TG6

I do have a big family and friends. I'm 6'5" 260. My brother is 6'8" 235. Heck my mom is 6'3". Generally my friends weigh in around 225. My point being, if I'm going to spend a million bucks I dont want to even worry about useful load. My parameters are fly two hours with a hour reserve and...

    New, 2019 DA42-VI or SR22TG6

neither. id take the new cessna turbo station air hd. that way i can actually take 4 adults and all their stuff and not have to stop every hour for fuel. sure the cessna is slower but it makes up for it not having to stop twice to go 500 miles. with 4 adults and baggage id only be able to put 40...

    That good old ‘Vacating’ topic

depends. if im in someones airspace i ask. if im ifr yes duh. if im using flight following and the radios are quiet and im not near any busy airports ill change altitude without asking. if im using flight following and the radio traffic is high i will ask. 9/10 i hear "altitude your discretion"

Flying from SoCal to Lake Tahoe

i agree flying to placerville and turn right. you can also go to auburn, blue canyon, truckee then to south lake for a different way in. there is zero smoke up here right now and the weather is great..a little windy this week though. September is considered the best summer month in tahoe. Warm...

So Cal to Seattle - Route / Stopover?

if your going to stop in reno, stop just before at KMEV or KTRK. both have good little restaurants. just be very aware of density altitude at KTRK. typically after 2pm i wont take off out of truckee since DA can easily get to 9k feet. it is starting to cool off though.

full power full lean, turn the fuel pump on and start cranking, once it acts like its trying to start go to idle and full rich at the same time. time wise? i dont know. its 100 degrees out every day so...tomorrow?

What's the deal with Mooney at Airventure?

Mooney has terrible customer service. I've tried calling, sending emails, all to get some pretty basic info that they for some reason leave out on their website. They either dont know, say "let me get back to you" or simply dont respond. After 3 phone calls and 5 emails I realized theres a...

    Another Cirrus down

This thread is mildly infuriating. Adapt or die. Sorry old timers. But the new generation is here. We dont want to fly airplanes built 50 years ago. We dont want to buy from a company that builds less than 20 airplanes a year. We want new designs, advanced avionics, reliability, and safety...

Why do yokes have dual handgrips?

Redundancy. My hands slip after I armor all the tires. And before anyone ask. Yes of course I spray wd40 on my break rotors to keep them lubricated. Do you think I'm stupid?

    Parachute Airplane Vs Non-Parachute Airplane

over a congested city or mountains I like the parachute. Over farm fields it would probably cause less damage to land the cirrus in a field than pull the chute. But if I had to choose between no chute and a extra 100 pounds useful, or a chute and give up the same weight I would go chute every...

    Instrument check ride discontinuance

when i have a check ride, i make my DPE pick me up in the airplane..(logistically its a 15 min flight or a 1.5 hr drive) so when he asks if the plane is air worthy, i say "well you flew it over here so it must be right?" it does not amuse him

    Private Pilot Training Question

get your medical, apply for a student license. i dont reccomend faa.gov for training.. unless your a computer get the sportys private pilot course($200), buy a E6b app($20) for your tablet, buy the FAA/FAR AIM app($10), and go from there. once you start to fly buy ForeFlight. and fly at least...

    Trip to MAMMOTH LAKES, CA.

Totally! If your not flying a twin turbo prop and a 10,000 hour all IFR pilot your done for. Mammoth isn’t to big of a deal. Just understand the risk, and be able to say No. To me flying in the mountains is all about having multiple solutions to one problem. If you fly over from the west you...

    Trip to MAMMOTH LAKES, CA.

true.. but that route is pretty far east and rotors likely wont be a factor at all. you wouldn't notice them until you were around deep spring lake just east of bishop, and bishop itself. i would rather approach mammoth from the south east to have a easy bail out behind me back to bishop if...

    Trip to MAMMOTH LAKES, CA.

" San Diego to FRIANT VOR (FRA) and then a quick hop over the mountains to KMMH " i dont suggest this. you will be flying over some of the biggest mountains in California and very inhospitable terrain this time of year. beautiful to fly over sure..but i wouldn't if i didn't have to. you would...
