    SE US GPS Outage

The area is centered out in the Atlantic Ocean roughly 40 miles due east of Kings Bay Base Georgia (just north of the FL/GA border) . If you copy this 30 49' 06" -80 28' 11" and paste it into google earth or http://maps.google.com it will show you the center. Chris

    Airspace Question

Ok I get it now. Big brain cramp. Most class E starts at 1200 ft. AGL, just not around here, so if it is not charted otherwise that's what you have. So I get it. Thanks to all of you for helping me work through my brain cramp. Chris

    Airspace Question

Steven, Not arguing (because obviously I don't know) but what indicates to you that it is 1200 feet. The description that you provided seems to indicate an area of Class E above 700. Again I'm just trying to figure it out. Chris

    Airspace Question

I'm leaning with ~John on this one. If it was Class E starting at 1200 feet wouldn't it be a blue gradient line? If you look at the whole area there is a complete contained area of Class E or stricter air space. There is a second one near Quantico. And there is no odd air space around it...

    Airspace Question

You will need to have a Baltimore/Washington TAC to possibly answer this. Looking at the TAC near the 200 Radial of the Hagerstown VOR there is a magenta ellipse. I know that typically the thick magenta line means Class E to 700 AGL, but in this case I am confused. If you follow the Class E...

Cool pics of Kopp-Etchells Static effect on helos - now named after fallen soldiers

Re: Kopp-Etchells Effect Mike, I think the effect is there all the time. The fact that you can see it is because of the dust and the fact that those pics are taken in the middle of the night. Take a pair of socks and rub them together make static and pull them apart. No big show. But do...

Cool pics of Kopp-Etchells Static effect on helos - now named after fallen soldiers

Re: Kopp-Etchells Effect Greg, I knew about the static, but had never seen it. Those were great picture fitting of the story. Did you ever see Hunt for Red October? They mention the static when Mr Ryan was going to board the Sub from the Sea King (or Sea Stallion) Chris

    Blue Angels cockpit vid

This is the Naval Academy Graduation Flight. Annapolis, MD. At 1:23 you can see the Old (new) Severn River Bridge, which they now call the Naval Academy Bridge. Closed for the show (notice the lack of traffic). At 2:20 is the main part of the Capus and the practice fields next to the river. And...

    What would you have done?

Or this? Thus, even if it were true that ATC would ordinarily not issue VFR traffic specific instructions as to how to fly the airport pattern, such instructions here, clearly intended to reduce the collision potential that a premature turn to base by respondent’s aircraft could (and...

    What would you have done?

How about this? 6 For instance, respondent argues that the controller, in denying respondent’s request to make a 360 degree turn after landing, incorrectly used the term “negative” instead of “unable.” Although respondent does not say so directly, he appears to believe that this asserted...

Can a Class E Airport Require a Radio?

I agree with both of these statements. I guess I mistook your previous post to mean you agreed with KLAM having the radio requirement.

Can a Class E Airport Require a Radio?

Can an Airport Under Class E Airspace Require a Radio? I was looking at Iowa City Municipal KIOW on Air nav and came across this comment: "ULTRALIGHT ACTIVITY DISCOURAGED-RDO RQRD" Does this mean Radio Required. And if so can they do that? Thanks

    Helicopter Crashes on A&M Campus

Assuming it was a tail rotor failure, in that flight profile autorotation would be the correct course of action. However looking at some of the sites that had pictures and video just prior to the crash, I am guessing they were doing steep approaches due to the dust. In that case he had very...
