I do not know the answer to my question about whether you can switch to BasicMed, but according to the BasicMed info graph on AOPA and FAA websites, you can be a CFI on BasicMed, you are just limited to planes and flight restrictions for BasicMed.

He had already scrapped the push rods for mostly cables awhile ago, way before the window broke. The window broke after he had the "wild ride" video. It was pressurized, but he had a window break in the hanger overnight, so once that happened he decided not to change it out and then cut some more holes for his changes to the aileron cables.
