    Best Aircraft for Commercial SEL

The 182RG is a fun airplane! If it were me, I’d get my ten hours of complex time in that one.

    What writtens for the CFII?

IGI includes helicopter questions, and some regs, specifically ceiling and vis requirements, are different. Should still be an easy pass if you’re spun up on your FII test.

    40deg flaps

The 150 becomes a manhole cover with 40*, ie it is coming straight down. Thing will stop in 200 ft if you have any wind but in the event of a go around, those big barn doors have to come up RIGHT NOW. Might take flying level to get enough smash to actually start climbing. So, go practice...

    "Best" IFR View Limiting Device

Maybe I'm a masochist, but I actually liked my Francis hood. Never felt it was too uncomfortable, and it did a great job of blocking out the peripherals. I usually wear a ball cap flying, so I'd just flip it around and have the band over the cap. Not a big fan of traditional foggles myself.

Finally made a Pilots and paws flight

My first one, I was leg one from Houston to Dallas with a momma pitty and her six pups. I took a friend and fellow pilot along as "dog handler". As we're taxiing out with the pups crated in the rear seat of a 172....a horrible smell fills the cockpit! One of the pups pooped everywhere in the...

    Wings Over Houston Airshow

Wish I could! I took a B-52 into there in 2016 and really enjoyed the show.

Paper sectional charts- are we still using them?

I liked paper charts for sentimental reasons. Nice to have something really tangible. However, once I made the switch to ForeFlight on my iPad I never really looked back. No worries about your paper approach plates expiring and the store not having them. I also have FF on my phone as my...

    How Many Hours from a 172 to a 414?

What's his mission? Understand he has the financial capital to swing it, but does he need that much airplane? Asking seriously....would he be as well served by a turbo 310 or the like?

Is there a "correct" call sign for the PA-28R?

I was flying a rental DA-20 for a while from an airport with a tower controller who was known to be very grumpy. I called up for taxi as "Diamond 12345" and he came back with "Diamond STAR 12345 blah blah blah..." (heavy emphasis on the Star). Same thing when he called back to give me a squawk...

    MOAs out West

Not sure about Navy or Marine rules, but per Air Force training rules, if what's called an "unbriefed flight" (read: bug smasher puttering along at 90 kts) enters a MOA while we're conducting training, we have to STOP until that aircraft leaves. If you live anywhere close to a MOA, your...

    Adding more ratings

Another vote for getting your instrument rating. It takes your flying from a hobby to actually being a utility. That pesky 1000 OVC deck that kept you grounded? Psh, no problem. I would also add a vote for getting your tailwheel endorsement. Seriously helps your stick and rudder skills.

    Say flight conditions

Most of the time I've heard/gotten this it was for an arrival/departure. I try to give them bases/tops and vis.

    Flight simulators for IFR training

If I'm not mistaken, it pretty much IS FSX!
