    ForeFlight vs. Garmin Pilot

I have an iPad mini4, iPad Pro 12.9 (I only use this to play around with. too big for cockpit), and iPhone X. All the same issue. Maybe I didn't describe it perfectly. If you want to pan around, you put your finger on the map and move your finger, and the map moves. But if you put your...

    ForeFlight vs. Garmin Pilot

I didn’t mean to imply that it is nothing, but it is such a small drop in the bucket when looking at the anual expense of flying, training, or aircraft ownership. And since it is a comparison between GP and FF, then just look at the difference in price between the two, not the total price of...

    ForeFlight vs. Garmin Pilot

I don’t understand the money argument. We are flying airplanes. $200 is pennies in the grand scheme of things. I use both. I prefer the extra features of FF, but on the other hand I like the map of GP better. GP has 2 data driven maps. 1 for VFR and IFR. Weather is better on FF. But the big...

    Garmin 796 and Jeppesen

Well $199 for firelight or GP is very reasonable. But I just can't understand why the 796 is so much more money, and also requires the key from Garmin for another 200. Basically almost $1000 for the first year, and that's only for one device.

Garmin 796 External GPS Source GDL 52

Well, I didn't get the R, because at the time I bought it, I didn't plan on getting an airplane of my own. But things have changed. But regardless, I just thought it would be better to use an external antenna. But from what you guys wrote here, the 796 does a good job on it's own, which I am...

Garmin 796 External GPS Source GDL 52

Not true. The GDL 52 is also a GPS receiver. It does GPS, ADS-B, and XM.

    Garmin 796 and Jeppesen

The thing is that for ForeFlight JEPP charts for the entire US are $199 for the year for 3 devices. Garmin Pilot samemprice for 1 device. I have that subscription. I assumed that it would be the same for the 796 since it is not a panel mount device, and it is basically just GP running on a...

    Garmin 796 and Jeppesen

Well I called again, and also it was in the 700s (don’t remember the exact number). But what did Garmin tell you once JEPP sent you to them?

Garmin 796 External GPS Source GDL 52

So surprisingly to me, the GDL 52 does NOT supply a GPS source to the 796. It DOES supply XM and ADS-B. This is straight out of Garmin's website. What I was hoping to do was to leave my GDL-52 on the floor and out of the sun, and use an external GPS antenna (GA25) for the GPS signal. ADS-B...

Thanks but that is just Nav data. I need the approaches.

    Garmin 796 and Jeppesen

SO I bought a 796. I must say Jeppesen website is an absolute train wreck (or maybe a plane crash). It is all over the place with unclear info, and when I call them, the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. I want to get Jepp approaches on the 796. I understand I have to buy...

    Used Avionics and 8130

Hi, Thanks for the reply. Well to be more specific it is from the Netherlands, and it is a Garmin 750.

    Used Avionics and 8130

So I am looking at some used Gamin avionics. I found something I really like at a good price from Europe. However it obviously doesn't have an FAA 8130. Does the EU have an 8130 equivilent that an avionics shop would accept in the US?

Purchasing an airplane just for parts?

It might not YET need an overhaul, but both engines are well over TBO, and as a result the selling price is very low compared to the same model with time to go left before overhaul. So one could buy it and pay for 2 overhauls, which might be a good deal. But on the other end it seems like a...

Purchasing an airplane just for parts?

Has anyone done this or have any opinion on it? A twin GA airplane that is due for an overhaul for the engines is being sold for about $50k. It needs 2 overhauls, which would realistically cost about $80k. It has lots of nice avionics in it. Garmin 530w, 430w, ASPEN, stratus ADSB, shalin...

Help deciding which plane to buy

Ok, thanks for the input. Now I have pretty much made up my mind to go with a 310 and not the aztec or baron. That being said, I have been looking at a 310 which is about 900 SMOH and 250 STOH. The left engine has compressions (as of 2 months ago annual): 64 78 78 70 74 The 64 concerns me that...

Help deciding which plane to buy

The $20/hour was maintenance cost, not fuel. Sorry if I didn’t make that clear.

Help deciding which plane to buy

Really? I haven’t been inside a baron 58. I thought they were bigger on the inside. Interesting. They just looked bigger to me than the 310. As for the turbo, I am reading lots of opinions and some people are saying that yes they cost more to own, but the cost difference is nothing big...

Help deciding which plane to buy

Well I will need it for an occasional long flight with family maybe 2 or 3 times a year for an approximately 1000 mile flight (2000 round trip). Also some shorter hops around Florida. Fort Lauderdale to Orlando, etc. Also just a little local flying to have some fun.
