    Oshkosh - 2019

Seems to be conflicting information on General Aviation Camping...website says closed, but some people are getting in? Anyone got the accurate details? Thanks.

    Air-to-Air Cessna 337 Skymaster

It's not all bad news....there's still a fairly good community of us Skymaster owners that keep them flying. :) Here's mine and here's a few of us out for breakfast.

    For Sale GDC31 - GPSS

Wait. There's a direct interface or you also bought a GAD29B? Edit: NVM. I realized you're also going to add a Garmin autopilot. I originally thought you had the G5 driving your 400A.

Where Have All the Decent File Backup Programs Gone?

Same here. Paid version covers up to 10 computers iirc. I'm happy with it.

    Ceramic exhaust

Ceramic coating 6 cylinder automotive manifolds are $200 - $300 per pair in my neck of the woods (CYYZ)....that's a coating that's supposed to withstand sustained 1600 degrees and short periods of 2000 degrees.

    Ceramic exhaust

That was another hotly (zing!) contested item. Would altering the thermal dispersion properties of inconel/stainless increase or decrease the lifespan/strength/resilience. Aviation seems to attract engineers from all disciplines, but damned if I can find a thread where a metallurgist has...

    Ceramic exhaust

To be fair, D'Shannon's exhaust isn't a stock coated piece. It's a completely new exhaust system with equal length primaries and a bunch of other changes:

To buy or not to buy

Yes. Manitoulin Island is a beautiful place to fly to.

    Ceramic exhaust

That's one of the contested issues...not allowing the exhaust to radiate heat; does the ceramic mask any cracks; does the ceramic make it next to impossible to repair the exhaust, etc... George Braly went so far as to say that the ceramic exhaust coatings are the answer to the question that...

    CYZE. Do it! :)

    Ceramic exhaust

D'Shannon offers it on their Baron and Bonanza exhausts. I could be mistaken, but I believe that's the first and only stc'd ceramic coating there is. Every other thread I've seen on the topic turns into a knockdown, drag em out, slugfest. People get really divided and really passionate over...

ADS-B out. Transponder and installation for $2,435. Why I pulled the trigger now instead of waiting.

Are you flying in the High Arctic and/or over the pole? That's the only airspace in Canada that uses ads-b. There IS NOT a mandate for ads-b in Canada for general aviation, nor are there any plans.

Not sure how this rumor keeps surfacing. You DO NOT need any ADS-B to fly in Canada, nor are there any plans for it.

HSI/upgrade path for Cessna 400A autopilot

No bueno. Garmin, Aspen, Sandel, etc. don't have an STC'd setup for attitude info to Cessna/ARC autopilots.... I'm surprised there isn't a business case for it. I can't imagine the number of Cessna pilots that would ditch their vacuum system if given the choice during an avionics upgrade.

HSI/upgrade path for Cessna 400A autopilot

Rate based, correct? One of the issues I'm circling around is that the 400A is attitude based and requires BOTH a DG/HSI and an AI to provide information to the AP. Sooo....I can upgrade the DG/HSI but NOT the AI. :/

Thanks James. Do you have a 400 ap?

HSI/upgrade path for Cessna 400A autopilot

Hi everyone, Looking for opinions on an upgrade path for a 400A autopilot that doesn't currently have an HSI but does have a 430W and I'd like GPSS steering commands to the autopilot. Sandel 3500? Aspen EFD1000 Pro? Other? Thanks, John
