And here they come out of woodwork

If they had a 2nd Amendment would we still be complaining about Kim Jong Un exercising his ‘right to bear arms’ right now? Seems we’re pretty selective about what ‘arms’ refer to. And the ‘arms’ we need to truly fight back against government oppression bare very little resemblance to guns. And...

Are there 172 models to avoid?

I'm going to have to channel my inner @mscard88 while he's on vacation, and ask why would you want to avoid 172 models?

Do AME's accept recent results from elsewhere?

No I never held a medical before. Would be my first time. I'm overweight, but all my actual numbers are well within the CACI ranges (as per the tests). I'm probably going to need an SI (or is that just a CACI?) though because I'm on a CPAP machine, but that's not going to change anytime soon so...

Do AME's accept recent results from elsewhere?

I had a scare a little less than a month ago which turned out to be nothing, but as a result I had a bunch of tests performed, including chest XRAY, chest CT, EKG, CDC, A1C, LIPIDs & MP. Everything is normal (well, within FAA/AME ranges anyway for a CACI). CT showed fatty liver, but I don't...

Buying an SR22 to train in

Uhh. Actually it would cost $155k for that trip for two people. Looks like fun though.

Buying an SR22 to train in

I would love to see someone show the cost of ownership of a pressurized twin TurboProp flying 200hrs/year for less than $100k/year.

Buying an SR22 to train in

Agreed. It looks like $400k is about the bare minimum for that config. You can get below that, but then I'll have an overhaul even during my instruction period. 500k is high end, but very possible. But still in perspective - the yearly ownership cost of a $500k SR22 for 200 hours is about $80k...

Buying an SR22 to train in

Thanks, yes, I got what I need, which was the procedural stuff. I found a CSIP training center in my area - I'm planning on calling them up tomorrow. I'm almost afraid now to ask on here how to know if they're any good... Is there something like a 'Yelp' for CFI's / CSIP's?

Buying an SR22 to train in

Yes. Grew up around it. My dad and all his friends were pilots. My brother-in-law is a pilot & aircraft builder. Been up in various non-commercial aircraft from military to helo to GA to experimental. It's actually kind'a weird that I'm only looking at it now at the age of 40 - but life got in...

Buying an SR22 to train in

I guess I can explain it like this: I don't buy cars without Lane Departure Warnings anymore. And you can call me an idiot who don't know how to drive, and how nobody should ever need them, and tell me how you have never driven over a line in your life. To which I saw, good for you - but I...

    In what way? A 182 is 42" wide. A SR22 is 49".

Buying an SR22 to train in

Yeah, absolutely not on my own. Would be more a way to see how well I'm capable of learning before investing too much. But a few hours in a plane before the winter would accomplish the same. Was just curious. I can't imagine the "hater" comment was directed at you. I agree, the BRS is a...

Buying an SR22 to train in

Yes, this is a great point. I won't even look at Controller until I've passed the written (and medical of course). It works out well - gives me something to do over the fall and winter. Would sim time in a redbird help before starting formal training?

Buying an SR22 to train in

Pacific North West. I read up on your trip, and it sounds amazing. But doing that in a PA-28 is above my and my families level of comfort. When I grew up my dad on 4 separate occasions lost friends that he went to flight-school with in mountainous and ocean terrain. A chute would have helped in...

Buying an SR22 to train in

I agree. That's why I postfixed that with: "it's not something I can say at this point". I was just answering the question about whether it's "end game". What's "end game" anyway? Life if fluid. But the SR22 is basically the minimum useful plane I can get into that won't purely be a trainer...
