    April solar eclipse

My experience of the last one in Kentucky, it was VERY busy getting in to where we wanted to go, but a total schitshow to get out (Everyone trying to get out at once, or trying to beat the jets to the runway). the weather was fantastic.

Single Engine down in Nashville - KJWN

Looking at the track, he was too high to land as he went over. There are some impressive towers around Tune, to the Northeast (twin 1290’s) and a 1287 just southeast of the airport, could have added to the anxiety level.

Single Engine down in Nashville - KJWN

Reports say it declared an emergency. Ended up about a 1.5-2.0 miles off the south end of John Tune.

An extraordinarily bizarre airspeed mystery that no A&P can solve

Check your prop setting… I had a similar issue on my Rotax after putting on a new Sensenich. Climbed like an angel but did not make the same speed. S can send you the settings by email. Changing the setting solved my issue.

    Diamond DA40 Catches Fire Midflight

N.C. plane was owned by Republic’s Lift Academy, Utah plane by Skywest partner FLT Academy. The Regional Airline’s Puppy Schools maint programs will likely see some added scrutiny due to these, but I think both say a lot about the safety and emergency procedures focus in these programs. In both...

Cockpit space in Tomahawk, Skipper, & Yankee?

The newer ones are heavier, the older ones like mine are lighter and faster. Those are my POH numbers

Cockpit space in Tomahawk, Skipper, & Yankee?

Lol… at 4800 RPM maybe…. At Cruise pitch, stable air, 5700RPM and low weight I usually see 103-108 at 3500 ft. with the pants on, on a cool day. The Sensenich helps. That was nearly identical to what the Sundowner delivered. My usual takeoff weight is well below gross with just myself aboard. A...

Cockpit space in Tomahawk, Skipper, & Yankee?

Mostly BS... You can still get parts fairly easily. Skywest/FLT Academy in SLC is the US Cruiser distributor now, and they really know their stuff. If they don't have it on hand, they can "Locally" source most things for you, if needed. Most everything they built it with is off-the-shelf used on...

Cockpit space in Tomahawk, Skipper, & Yankee?

The canopy is clear, so if you live where it hails, get the padded canopy cover from Bruce’s. More expensive, but worth every penny when you consider how much a canopy replacement would cost. I would get the custom plugs as well. (There is a video online about making the canopy from Cruiser. It...

Cockpit space in Tomahawk, Skipper, & Yankee?

Aero Commander 100, a lower cost competitor to the Cessna 172 that outclassed it in many ways, especially off asphalt performance due to the type of gear and flaps. Slower, but more of a family truckster. Under-powered with the 150, fun to fly with a 180. The airplane I solo’d in, oh so long...

Cockpit space in Tomahawk, Skipper, & Yankee?

They don’t call it the Slowdowner for nothing…. LOVED the 180hp Sundowner. Comfortable and roomy, could still carry a good bit with full tanks, but you aren’t going to get there fast. Once you get the hang of landing one they are a fine airplane. I was just damned glad I had 5 other partners...

Cockpit space in Tomahawk, Skipper, & Yankee?

Look at a Sportcruiser, you won’t be disappointed and likely will be very impressed. I am 6ft. It has adjustable pedals that I have to move forward, 6’3” should not be an issue. 46.5 inch cabin width is the largest in the class, divided from your pax by a 4-inch center console. For comparison a...

All three Las Vegas airports will charge a $3,000 landing fee during F1 races

As I noted above, Special events bring big costs and the FBO’s are entitled to recover that and make a profit. Make hay while the sun is shining, yada yada… For the ramp and the hangar area they control/lease, or the runway/taxiways that are shut down for parking that they route, I can easily...

    Fuel Leak After Topping Off

Something similar happened in the Sundowner partnership I used to belong to. I was recently minted, and heading off on my first long cross country with a friend. Club had a longstanding rule to only fill the tanks to the tabs after a flight, no one in the current group really remembered why...
