    ILS Required?

He told me that he can't install a GPS 175 and use our current Ki209 without having an ILS also. We bought the KI209 specifically because we knew we could use it on a GPS someday. That's always been the plan. This guy just always seems to come up with an excuse why it's going to cost thousands...

    ILS Required?

I would be happy with that but according to my avionics guy, we can't do that because we're REQUIRED to have ILS.

    ILS Required?

That's why we want to connect the GPS to the KI 209, it has GS. But my avionics guy says we have to have ANOTHER CDI with GS too??? Can't we just connect the KX 155 to the KI 203 as a VOR?

    ILS Required?

Yes, the 175 would require displaying glideslope for IFR which is why I wanted to connect it to the KI 209. However, I just wanted to connect the KX155 to a Ki 203 for directional guidance only, no GS.

    ILS Required?

The one we'd sell doesn't have glideslope but I'll let you know if/when.

    ILS Required?

Right now the KI 203 is being driven by another KX155 without GS. Our plan was to take that out when the GPS went in. Maybe keep it as a second comm.

    ILS Required?

We have an Arrow with a King KX 155 with glideslope connected to a KI 209. We'd like to install a Garmin 175 and connect it to the KI 209 and connect our KX155 to a KI 203 (already installed) which doesn't have glideslope. Our avionics guy says we have to install another new CDI because ILS is...

    Is this common or unsafe?

That's a good thought, however, this is not my CFI instructor and this was not a CFI training flight. He was only "type rating" me to fly this plane. In fact, I don't think he even knew that I'm working on my CFI. And no, I have no intention of teaching in this plane.

    Is this common or unsafe?

You're 100% right. It wasn't that fast, but if something went wrong, we were only over the runway 1/3 of the time, otherwise we were going to hit a fence or a runway light. That's what made me feel it's unsafe.

    Is this common or unsafe?

Yes, that is exactly what he wanted me to do. In fact on the next pass he wanted to show me what he wanted. Just as you, I've done the ground effect exercise right over the runway and I have no problem doing that. I just didn't like the S curves from fence to fence. I realize I said "instantly...

    Is this common or unsafe?

Yes, it's my understanding that this CFI has over 3000 hours in this type. However, that wasn't a factor to me when he took over the controls and said we should do "this".

    Is this common or unsafe?

There's no doubt that I needed improved directional control, that's why I was getting training. This was only the 2nd or third landing in this plane for me. I was still trying to learn how it flew. However, I still don't see this as a good way to teach that. Maybe slow flight at a higher...

    Is this common or unsafe?

Thanks for sharing. There's no doubt that the wind will be light until I get more practice in this plane. It really amazes me how much rudder is used and how this plane likes to weather vane.
  14. lancie00

    Is this common or unsafe?

Not really. He wanted me to actually aim the nose of the airplane 20° right, cross the runway almost to the fence then turn 40° left so we would cross the runway at the opposite 20° angle. I also noticed that this guy was going 70mps as a low pass. My CFI only wanted to be 10mph above stall.

Advanced Ratings While Working Full Time

You'll get there. It took me 1 1/2 years to get my instrument and commercial and now I'm working towards my CFI. My plan is to really dig in after the first of the year and hope I'm done before corn planting in April.

    Maximum performance maneuvers

Make sure you're starting at maneuvering speed. Then tell your DPE what speed you're targeting. He didn't have a problem not going to a stall but yours might be different.

    Is this common or unsafe?

I'm a current instrument rated commercial pilot working towards my CFI. I bought a Challenger 2 experimental and found a CFI to get some training. During some landings at a nontowered airport, we either had a gust of wind or I did something wrong and about 20' off the ground, we quickly turned...

Do you have recurring dreams about dodging and not being able to climb over powerlines/buildings?

When I have that kind of dream it's various things, power lines, hills, trees, etc. I normally turn to miss the object but no matter how much time I have, I can never climb out of the "hole" that I'm in. I never remember crashing though. Just seem to circle and never get out.

    Detroit ILS Y approach

I'm just a weekend warrior and know nothing about this but why don't they use the RNAV W approach? It looks like it has minimums of 400' compared to 300'. That should work in most cases.
