Share your favorite aviation picture(s) from this month!

December always seems to be a slow time for me in aviation... I fly recreationally these days, and winter weather coupled with the holiday season always seems to slow my roll a little bit. So, I thought it would be fun to see some recent aviation pictures that any of you have taken. These...

Sufficiently offending the seller of an aircraft?

I don't know that I entirely agree with what you said on this one. I'd never intentionally try to insult someone, or their aircraft, especially if I was trying to buy it. But, pointing out material deficiencies is part of purchasing anything, especially if the seller is trying to downplay...

    ForeFlight 8

That's true. Plus, I use Foreflight quite a bit even when I'm not flying... the weather products are better than anything I've found on the web for free, so I usually use their radar view when I'm planning outdoor activities here in Colorado in the summer afternoons (when we have a lot of...

Quick little question about number pronunciation for radio

Believe it or not, sometimes I forget to add the "er" to the 9, and quite surprisingly my engine still keeps spinning the prop. Admittedly this would probably create a communication barrier more easily in a place like Germany, but Colorado is a long hop from there. When I do forget to say it...

Successful deadstick landing on a road

Put me in the 'head for the water' camp on this landing. Don't get me wrong, these guys did a good landing, but there was a LOT that could have gone wrong with trying to pick that road. There was a lot of warm and calm water nearby, and I'd rather lose the plane than my life. Honestly, I...

    Main rotor separation

I spent a lot of time in helicopters over the years… the passengers we'd occasionally have always worried about engine failures, while those of us on the crew always knew that there were far worse things that could happen than losing our engine. Sad to hear about this.

    Where are my pilot reports?!

I've given PIREPS for turbulence to ATC tower controllers a few times this year, and they've all shown up in the system.

I'm a little purturbed. And discouraged.

I very much agree with you on this one. That could be the deal of the decade, or a money pit that never flies again. I hope the former for my friend, but fear the latter.

I'm a little purturbed. And discouraged.

I have a friend (a very experienced airline captain) who is just looking at getting back into general aviation flying. She told me she is looking at a $4,000 plane at a local airport that hasn't flown in something like 5 years. Her plan is to maybe put $10,000-15,000 into it, and have a good...

Rolling a Business Jet? How common?

I had it on good authority that a guy did this I a 737 at one point... Though I only heard the story secondhand (from a chief pilot at the airline in question).

    Reporting Driver's License Suspension

Well, clearly you haven't been around enough marijuana users. Today's marijuana is far more potent than the ditch weed of the 60's, and serious medical/psychological issues have certainly occurred since weed became VERY common around here recently... Especially with the edibles. I've seen...

    Reporting Driver's License Suspension

I think you're going to have an uphill battle if you try to intelligently argue a case for caffeine in coffee being worse than weed. Sorry, but I'll be the first to call bull on that claim (incidentally, I don't drink coffee, and I've had exactly one beer so far this year... Mostly because I...

    Reporting Driver's License Suspension

This is a good point. And, for that matter, a pot user also can't legally buy a firearm. Personally, I'm not going to fly with anyone who regularly uses marijuana, but that's just me.

My first flight could have been my last.

Ha! I was thinking about some of the pro-pot posts I've seen around here as I read this thread.

    Air-to-Air Photos Christen Eagle

    Reporting Driver's License Suspension

Agreed. Marijuana use doesn't excactly speak to great judgment, nor does it in any way improve cognitive performance.

    Plane down in Tampa

The current story almost makes it sound as if there was no mid-air, but rather a stall/spin scenario that was preceded by the pilot taking evasive action to avoid a mid-air. But, obviously I'm speculating here.

    A not successful freeway landing

And, while this accident is sad and tragic, roughly 90 other people died that day in car crashes that didn't involve an aircraft. But, some will still scream for bans on experimental aircraft, general aviation, etc.

    Air-to-Air Cessna 175 Skylark

I never thought to disconnect the window latch… come to think of it, I'll have to look at it again the next time I fly to see how hard it is to disconnect. Can this be done without tools? Obviously the FBO would probably frown on me taking their planes apart, unless I can do it with minimal...

    Air-to-Air Cessna 175 Skylark

I shoot with the same camera, but haven't yet figured out how to get good photos from the Cessnas I rent... Do you shoot from a plane with the doors off? In other words, how do you get good air-to-air photos without dirty old plexiglass in the shot?
