    Night VFR Poll

Well I’m not. Never said that. Have no clue where you got that. Where the hell did I say or suggest luck was the only thing that determined success or not??? “Not using the available techniques”. So from my post you think my night flying strategy is close my eyes and hope for the best...

    Night VFR Poll

Maybe you’re not understanding me. My mention of “luck” is simply saying that if it was pitch dark in a rural area and you weren’t going to see what was in front of you until your landing lights hit it... you’d be about 80-90% likely to land in an ag field in the areas I typically fly. Study...

    Night VFR Poll

I’m IFR rated with a well equipped panel. I live in an area that’s mostly ag and a lot of my night flying would be over areas where luck alone would provide a feasible forced landing. As much as I love the calm and beauty of night flight I just don’t do it much at all. I will occasionally go...

    Polishing prop

Hate to resurrect such and old thread but since it’s the correct subject I figured it was better than starting a new one. From reading back through the posts it appears about as clear as mud on whether a prop can be polished or not. The thread is reminiscent of the led panel light bulbs topic...

    Avidyne question - IFD 100 / charts..

I have a 550 and use the IFD 100 app to run the moving map with traffic and weather. Have never had the desire to have charts or plates on the ifd100. Still use foreflight for those right on the yoke mount mini. The IFD 100 is on a panel mount iPad Pro 9.7. Absolutely wonderful setup.

Wow. What an incredible job by the pilot.

Cessna 414 down in Yorba Linda

All this talk about fraud has me nervous. I just want to go ahead and state that I am not a real doctor before any accusations come out. I don’t make this claim so no worries.

Expensing a flight in your own plane.

Is the legal liability often anything similar to tax liability? I guess I think of how my cpa explained “incidental” travel which essentially is myself and all my employees getting in their vehicle and coming to work, and going home, taking a lunch, etc. the company holds zero liability for...

Expensing a flight in your own plane.

I can see your employer's fear of liability. We all know how the judicial system works "for" us in these situations. If you take a business trip, even on your own dime, and crash and burn your surviving relatives are going to have attorneys that happily try to blame anyone they can other than...

Cessna 414 down in Yorba Linda

I agree. If you were flying the AI (by hand or attitude based AP) and had vacuum pump failure... Do you suppose this might be the flight track if you were flying to the leaning AI? What about the AP? My Century 41 AP is attitude based and would probably do something similar if I didn't notice...

Saratoga down off Palm Beach, FL

I remember once being told that the term “souls on board” was derived due to the carrying of deceased people. Religion aside it’s intent was to discern alive from dead. Using the terms people or passengers, etc. was less clear. May not be true. Just what I remember.

Cessna 414 down in Yorba Linda

I’ve listened to this a few times with the volume up and my eyes closed. Honestly, like someone already mentioned this sounds like a case of loss of directional control. Engines sounded normal with typical drag / thrust until the final “dive” which is when the wings and tail were ripped off...

    Cheapest way to commercial?

I know your main objective is building time. Don’t forget to have fun too. Idk if you have a significant other or not, but flying a couple hours for a “date night” can be rewarding in multiple ways ;)

John. No name calling here. I’ll just simply say that your soap box post adds nothing to this thread. Honestly whether anyone or everyone agrees with you or not, begs the question: WTF does it matter? Back on topic.

(Long) A failed AI does not mean a failed vacuum pump

AI’s fail just like anything else mechanical. The idea that it wouldn’t fail is odd.

    Super Bowl LIII

I wondered if it was military and was toting some heavy artillary waiting on some goofus in a Cherokee to bust the TFR? Your explanation is much more boring.

    Super Bowl LIII

I actually did go to a maroon 5 concert a few years ago. I like their music ok. Their concert was not great at all. A few weeks before that I saw Coldplay and we’ll that set a high bar. Adam Levine honestly isn’t that great of a singer. The flying hobby actually is what created those...

    Super Bowl LIII

What’s the B407 doing circling the game at 2000 feet since 5:15. The flight aware track makes me dizzy. I’m sure it’s security of some type. Just curious if anyone has any more specifics of what it’s likely doing.

    Talkin' to the Tower

All that study stuff is fine and dandy but to learn to talk to ATC you really just need to talk to ATC. The only tower near my home drone is water tower and it stays silent. As a newly minted ppl a few years back I got flight following for pretty much every flight I could. I was semi terrified...

Anyone find an ATC recording of this flight? That should be pretty telling.
