    Blue Angels on flight aware?

It doesn't look like there have been TFRs popping up during the flyovers. Does anyone have an idea what (AGL) altitude they've been flying at? There's a good chunk of the Houston flyover tomorrow that's outside of the Bravo and real close to the airport I fly out of.

    Starting with Multi-Engine?

Relating to your comparison about learning to drive in a single-seat F1 (style?) car, I learned how to drive through autocross in the SCCA's SS class. I think the comparison is great. When I decided I was done with hunting cones in a parking lot (less than 2 years later), I went to Laguna Seca...

L39 Training Flight in Santa Fe

About 5 or 6 seconds. Towards the top of the loop, I unloaded to try to make it more of a circle than an oval. The timing of that matched up pretty well with a minor case of tunnel vision starting to come on.

L39 Training Flight in Santa Fe

Coincidentally, I also spent some time with Larry this month and ended up logging 1.7 hours in the L-39. I had previously flown his Fouga. The Fouga has boosted ailerons but the L-39 does not. What the L-39 DOES have is a bungee assist which I underestimated when looping the plane. I was...

    SF260

Thanks for the feedback so far. Based on the Davisson write up, it looks like I might need to do some additional research on the nose gear. As for the "why", it pretty much comes down to wanting a plane that can handle the typical xc mission (range, speed, IFR, prefer higher wing loading)...

    SF260

Does anyone have experience in the SF260? I've searched the forum and have seen a few posts suggesting it's a good plane, but nothing too detailed as far as personal experience. I'm looking at the plane for both solo/one-passenger xc's and aerobatics. I'm fairly low time at 200 hours, but have...

Hangar collapse at KHOU houston hobby

From the Houston Area Aviators group on Facebook, it sounds like it was a tornado that touched down.

    My $100.00 Home Gym

My set up started off with a hangboard and a power rack. These pictures are from a few months ago, but I haven't added too much more to it, just moved stuff around.

    IFR Checkride Complete

Late follow up. Since passing my IFR check ride, I had a handful of VFR flights (including two aerobatic flights in a Fouga) up until last weekend. An opportunity came up to leave Sugar Land for an early flight down to Harlingen. I went ahead and filed IFR, and was able to log all of 0.1 of solo...

Training in a Piper Archer Now. Got Any Tips/Tricks/Advice?

Pretty sure MAKG1 is talking about making sure you're using the same units when calculating your ratio. Foreflight is looking for ft/ft not miles/ft.

530W Updates - Need Two Adapters?

Is there any reason that Jepp is $150 more than Garmin for North America Nav Only?

530W Updates - Need Two Adapters?

I've seen a few threads on updating Jepp nav data, and the requirement for the Skybound Adapter in order to do so. However, I couldn't find any information on the Garmin options. It looks like North America Nav-Only from Jepp would be $550 vs Terrain/Obstacles/Nav from Garmin at $500. If I...

    IFR Checkride Complete

Thanks everyone! @azblackbird Goal for the remainder of the year is to build time by getting involved with Pilots N Paws, fly a Fouga, fly a TBM (and get my high altitude endorsement), and some more time building. Next year, I'll probably be looking at my multi-engine rating, and/or possibly my...

    IFR Checkride Complete

It's taken a while wrap everything up, but as of yesterday, I scared an examiner enough to get him to punch a hole in my certificate. I started in January, taking a couple weeks off work to try to fast-track my way through the instrument rating. Everything was going smoothly other than being...

partial panel training in IMC conditions?

@MauleSkinner : yes, the "hobbs" was still ticking, so I paid for the extra sim time. No, the instructor didn't charge me for the extra "instructor time". Lesson learned: don't post fun stories about things done in a simulator that are not absolutely training critical. Because no one else has...
