RNAV (no TAA) - Cleared for the approach. When to descend?

An airport/FBO conversation that I could use some clarification on. Title says it all, pretty much. If one is at 4,000 feet - ATC says, "Cleared for RNAV 33 Approach. Cleared direct ATVEW maintain FOUR thousand until Established." When can one begin their descent? I thought that ATVEW is an...

    Racetrack/Procedure Turn Question

Hello - been a minute since I posted here. I have a quick question as a newly minted CFII. On my recent CFII checkride, at 3AU I was coming in from the NW and shooting the VOR-A approach. Examiner asked me if I was going to do the racetrack procedure turn, and I said yes. DPE said that was...

    Change of career

Ahmad. Do it. I am in a similar situation. Mid-life crisis (at 42) includes a divorce and a career change as well. Collected PPL to CFII over a period of time from 2010 to 2023. I am looking to make the switch to aviation. I currently work IT in the public sector. I will be content to be a...

    It is so cold....

I remember my first winter in Northern MN when I moved up here from MI. Was a nice -39 F on New Years Day. Anti-freeze in the car was more water than coolant/AF - which was fine for southern Michigan winters. Stuff froze. Hole in the radiator. Excellent start to the year. Sent from my...

    Good DA here today

Same. But I may make an exception next week as it is my last chance to clock the required hours before my CFI leaves the area for a few months. Yesterday at 3 degrees was the warmest day till Tuesday. So going to have to wait and see. [emoji3063] Sent from my SM-T510 using Tapatalk

    GA in Illinois and Wisconsin?

Thanks! yeah the Brother-in-law's family owns a cabin "up north" in WI. Near Ashland? I've never been, but pics look amazing. Wife has visited. Work might be sparse though. :( Open to Twin Cities and Southern MN. Property and housing costs are a concern there. :)

    GA in Illinois and Wisconsin?

Welp, MN is no different. Same with COVID funding and enrollment has taken a dive too. State's budget is now in the red, and the words "cuts/layoffs/furloughs" have been mentioned. Sounds like the CIO is on his way out too.. so it has started. Sent from my SM-T510 using Tapatalk
