    What a zoo!

Yep! I flew my RV down thru FL a few months ago, mainly just to bag landings at Cedar Key, Key West, Marathon, etc. I saw a few other airports that could've been interesting, but, there was just so dang much trainer traffic everywhere I looked... I just climbed up to 4500'+ and pressed on above...

    N252DL Cessna 310 Texas 1/14

I'm gonna say FIKI started with 1977 R models; when I flew night freight in 310s we had a fleet of '75-79 year models. The '77-79 ships were FIKI certified. Not to be nitpicky though...

Youtube Pilot and her dad perish in TN

Oh good, so it’s not just me being annoyed there… I don’t watch much YT aviation content, but some stuff shows up on my YT feed and occasionally I’ll give it a look. Most videos just bug me with too much “look at me!”… and the flying/camera chatter is just, ehh. I’ve watched a few minutes of...

How many hours did you fly in 2023?

    My GA hours are 269; 179 in my RV-8, plus 90 in various CAF ships(C-47, B-25, SB2C, T-6, BE-18). Then there's B737 time... maybe 700-ish. 2023 grand total probably around 950.

The 2019 Hawaii Crash and The “Bad Flight Instructor”

Dude, chill. The CAF isn’t what I’d consider LARPing; the title of Colonel for all members is pretty much a joke started up in the very earliest days of the CAF. Nobody takes the “rank” or title seriously. We’re not mocking any titles earned by a retired servicemember; we’re mocking a retired...

How Many Planes Do You Have

Another fraction owner here; I’m at 1 1/5 airplanes. Have my own RV-8, plus a 1/5 share in a T-28D Trojan. The T-28 is fun, but the RV is more bang for the buck and just easier (cheaper!) to operate.

The 2019 Hawaii Crash and The “Bad Flight Instructor”

No no, don’t do that. There’s no need for Captain titles, and you’re WAY overusing it. If you’re retired, you’re not a Captain anymore, sorry. My day job is B-737 captain, but I sure as hell don’t use that as a title for anything at all. Then again, may there’s something to having all these...

Unbelievable Offduty Delta Mechanic notices GA Maintenance Issue from the Ground

Funny, my brain teaser for nav lights is similar; back in the ‘80s my dad was whipping up an evening cocktail that was sorta crazy bright green. He said it was called a ”Starboard Light”... so yep, that’s how I remember! https://www.diffordsguide.com/cocktails/recipe/15496/starboard-light

Youtube Pilot and her dad perish in TN

That video of her aimlessly flying in circles just had me gobsmacked; she had no clue as to what was going on or where she was going. The concept of turning off the a/p and hand flying GPS direct never occurred to her... but she kept poking uselessly at buttons and griping about the 430/AP. She...

Grumman AA-1x Pre Buy Houston Tx

Yep, still there; I think David is still plugging along, and while Robert passed away roughly 2 years ago, his son RW is now running the shop. Good dudes… they did a cylinder change on my RV awhile back, she’s running fine!

    DD flashlight at night rule?

Oh man, the DD Maglite… I still have one from my 135 check hauling days! It‘s only 32-ish years old, still works fine. Currently taking up space in a closet; anyone want it for cost of shipping? :p For my current B737 gig, a small rechargeable LuxPro LED from Lowe’s works just fine.

Fighter Pilot looking for advice on the GA world

This right here. Coming from fighters, you’ll be bored out of your mind in a 172 or Cherokee. If your usual mission is for just 1-2 seats, find an RV-8. I’m a civilian airline guy, never got to fly any cool fighter stuff, but my RV-8 still makes me giggle after 17 years and almost 2200 hours…

    Garmin Pilot App

Yep, I used a 32gb tablet for several years; it‘s not enough for the entire US plus approach plates and all that, but for half the country for sectionals plus a few states worth of plates, it’ll work.

    Lancair in McKinney 11/11/23

In looking at the linked FlightAware flight profile, I'd say nope. Looks like they were at FL250 for a short while, then descended to 9500-ish and continued to Aero Country.

Possibly, but that isn’t what caused the overrun…

Mike Patey PT-6 Explosion on way to OSH

Well huh… I thought it was just me. He does impressive work, yet I just can’t stand to watch his videos.

Do airline crews tell you their names anymore?

Yep, exactly that. Minimum PAs unless delayed or funkiness happens. And doing a PA in the cabin? Aww hell no! I don't do a standup routine and methinks the passengers wouldn't care one way or the other. Plus, it just gets in the way of boarding and the flight attendants.

    Plane Naming Conventions

Aww man, you stole my names; “The plane” or The RV”. I just never got into the whole naming thing…

    Report, or let it go?

Wait a minute... so, you were "followed" by another aircraft and your feelings were hurt by it, so then you turned and followed him close enough to read his tail number?? Dang man, that's dangerous! You should be reported to the FAA!! Yep, I'm just pointing out the silliness of this thread and...

    Report, or let it go?

But, what is there to report?? There’s nothing here that’s reportable other than the OP is a little butthurt about another ship coming within 1/2 mile. They didn’t trade paint, so who cares??
