Flight Review after almost 5 years....

I feel good about my skills with the limited time. If I plan on taking the family on a flight I usually get a flight in by myself a few days before. Just to get comfortable. I didn't fly at all in August due to schedules, kids, vacation, etc. I went up this past Tuesday in the morning for some...

Flight Review after almost 5 years....

Hit the nail on the head. I was 10yrs out of flying when I jumped back in last Oct. I was given a general rule of thumb that for every year out of flying, it will be about an hour of training to get signed off again. My CFI recommended I jump into the WINGS program to get knock out some ground...

    TFR Talk - Transitioning...VFR

@apr911 Thanks for sharing that info. I plan on filing and routing north a bit to a give a little more buffer between me and the inner circle. The whole idea behind the original post and question was to better understand the WHY's to filing (how does it help?) and if there are alternative...

    TFR Talk - Transitioning...VFR

Thanks for that information. So I'm still not understanding the need for VFR filing into TFRs. If ATC doesn't really receive that data outside of SARs necessity, who (if anyone) is using that data? Is it merely an attempt to try and coax the pilot into getting a briefing prior to departure and...

    TFR Talk - Transitioning...VFR

Didn't even think about that. Went searching for info and came across this vid. Nothing too special, but the one stat surprised me (@ 1:05). NORAD has one tactical action every 6hrs inside TFRs :yikes:

    TFR Talk - Transitioning...VFR

No time at all. I guess I'm really just curious how a VFR flight plan is of any real help to ATC. In my limited flying, I have never heard them ask if anyone has "filed" VFR before departure. I've never been through a TFR, so maybe that changes when you do expect to transition. What if you need...

    TFR Talk - Transitioning...VFR

Thanks guys. Honestly, I'll be filing VFR just so I don't have to take a chance at delays. I figure ATC really only cares about making sure I have a code, direction [destination] and altitude. Typical stuff when requesting flight following. @iamtheari Interesting detail. That seems even...

    TFR Talk - Transitioning...VFR

Ok. Two week TFR in northern NJ starting tonight, got me thinking. I've been planning a flight from Reading, Pa to Danbury, CT to visit family. Although I don't plan on going in the next two weeks, I need to consider that these TFRs are going to continue popping up. KRDG -> KDXR [TFR...

Philadelphia Class B air tour. Anyone ever request it?

Yeah. All my interactions have been pleasant and when monitoring LiveATC, they really seem to try and get your requests approved. Still, I figure a call before hand to see if they have some preferred time periods or areas before I just "show up" would help for a smooth process.

Philadelphia Class B air tour. Anyone ever request it?

I've been thinking about calling Philly ATC on the land line to see what the chances are of getting approval for an air tour of the city. I figure if I stay north of center city / 676 and west of the Delaware, I would stay clear of the approach/departures. Anyone else try this already? Tips/tricks?

Flying along the coast. Best practices?

Glide distance was definitely on my mind. The beach was packed with people and lots of boats. I was eyeing up the marsh areas behind the beach real estate. Not ideal, but there wasn't much of anything available. At the southern tip is a state park, so there were more options...

Flying along the coast. Best practices?

After a 10yr hiatus for kids and family, I finally got back in the saddle back this past October and have been making up for lost time. Just crossed the 100hr milestone. Anyway....I finally flew from Reading,PA (KRDG) down to Cape May, NJ (KWWD) yesterday. Was my first beach flight. Also my...
