    Cessna fuel sender and fuelsenders.com

I can't speak to the McFarlane product. It is only available for wire-wound (Stewart-Warner) type senders, which would be most pre-restart Cessna. Ironically, it's a film-type product, which is similar to the Rochester ones that are on the post-restart. They are definitely more prone to failure...

    Cessna fuel sender and fuelsenders.com

Did you check with CiES? They recommend the digital input version of that gauge, of course. It's the better signal. But I believe they can be adapted to the stock gauges...which should mean they can be adapted to the analog input version of AL gauge you have. I wouldn't stake my life on that...

    Cessna fuel sender and fuelsenders.com

He is out of business. He has passed away. His son took over some of the remaining work, but my understanding is that it was to complete existing work. When that was done, no more work was taken. It still doesn't solve the terrible design of the senders in the first place. Now that CiES senders...

First propeller bolt pulled and not looking good

Agree with @NordicDave . I recently had my 172's prop overhauled. It was due to corrosion on the rear mounting face. There was no way I was ever going to see that. The only reason we saw it at all was due to a renter of my aircraft scratching the prop on something (and I still don't have the...

    Giant and frequent ForeFlight downloads

I wish. It's not available to all of us. My community of about 200 homes was considering breaking with the utility companies and running our own fiber up the hill. But the cost would be in the $1-2M range. And that's if we get access to the poles and don't have to bury. Assuming about half join...

Any of you Experimental types comply with this

If the type is always experimental (RV, for instance), is it sufficient to provide just the type? That's not ambiguous that it's an experimental, though it may be esoteric depending on the type.

    Giant and frequent ForeFlight downloads

Everything. Because I can. Why not? So, yeah, the list is excessive. If I were planning a specific flight and had limited bandwidth, clearly I'd be careful about what I downloaded. However, it's indicative that the smaller set should also be smaller than it ends up being. This is a solvable...

    Giant and frequent ForeFlight downloads

Well, I knew the change in frequency of FAA charts was going to affect the size of downloads, but, sheesh, 16 GB each month is quite a pile of bits. I really wish ForeFlight would do something more intelligent than just re-downloading the entire package when it's out-of-date. Not a huge deal for...

    Presidential TFR

What, seriously? Never seen one of those. How in all hell would you avoid that thing reliably?

    G5 software update

Tell me more about these diodes...is there a doc on that? I had mine installed a year and a half ago, I think? Wondering when this kicked in. I've had drain issues, but they've been related to the G5 not turning off on shutdown. As a leaseback, it flies enough that 10% per week would not be...

    Presidential TFR

No. TFRs don't move around. And the VIP TFR only protects departure and arrival airports, not enroute. Sometimes you'll see TFRs that don't seem to line up with that, but that's usually to accommodate helicopter movement.

    Digital fuel gauges

I have a pair in my 172 coupled to an FL202D. Incredible units. The CiES senders are magneto-reluctance sensors, is my understanding. They have a float, just like a resistive unit, but instead of feeding the motion to a pot, the arm has a small, strong permanent magnet attached to the sensing...

    KLN94 update problem

When I had a KLN94, I did it via VMware. It worked about as well as such a janky setup could be expected to, but it did work.

G5 AI Only Installation Time Question

I don't believe he was making any assumptions. When I read what you wrote the first time, I read that as installing two G5s. I think most people read it that way, too. It's not what you meant...the "and" was meant to connect with the 430 not the other G5, but it's ambiguous. Yay, English (and...

    Trouble shooting C172 Fuel gauges.

The early pot used in the A model referenced in this thread isn't too bad. It's a wire-wound model that doesn't fail at too great a rate, but still not awesome. However, the unit spec'ed for the S model I have is a carbon film unit that fails at great rate, especially for aircraft kept outside...

    Trouble shooting C172 Fuel gauges.

Although it was a bit expensive, I finally gave up on the garbage senders in my 172 and installed CiES senders. They're amazing. Very precise, very reliable, very repeatable. They're also cheaper, at only $435 each side. The expense comes from install. They're active, so they need power run to...

    Precise meaning of “continue downwind”

A lot of arguing about whether, "Continue" or "Extend" is correct phraseology. Doesn't seem to matter to me...both are equally vague and mean about the same thing. At PAO, I've always heard "Extend". It's a common request. It can be nerve-wracking trying to figure out the controllers intent, as...
