    Helpful Hints on Airplane Purchase

I've got a 182P with a 530W, fuel flow, ADS-B, FlightStream, HSI and decent autopilot for about 60% of your budget. I routinely fly with 4 seats full (though not always full fuel). The biggest downside is the speed. I flight plan for 130kts.

Flight by reference To Stratus 2 AHRS

It's well worth it!! You gonna drop in the GDL-88 at the same time?

Any ideas on what to do with old airplanes?

If you did declare an emergency...

I think that's probably unanimous around here, but there's a fine line between "I got this handled..." and "oh ****..." We pilots lean towards the former :)

Sportys study buddy IFR test prep app

It definitely existed and I used it for my test last week. Screenshot attached. However, it no longer appears on Sporty's website, nor under their developer profile in the App Store. No idea why.

    Steam plus GPS

Steam 182P with 530W, GDL88 ADS-B, FlightStream 210+ForeFlight, HSI. Bought it about 2 months after my PPL, about to wrap up my IR this month flown solely in it.

    IFR routing question

Really? I bet there are a lot of regionals flying out of uncontrolled fields. Most of them EAS airports, I bet. My hometown of KJHW being one. Not to mention, until a couple years ago, KUNV was non towered.

In the very early process of picking a plane....

Thanks! Lurking awhile and finally signed up :) I got my plane without hangar space at KTPF - like you, I figured it wasn't available (but I knew they had community space). So when it arrived after being ferried to its new home, the airport asked me where I wanted to store it. I said...

In the very early process of picking a plane....

Roger the 182. I picked up a 182P this year when I had about 80 hours, PPL only. Insurance was about $1600 per year. Now, I'm about 2 hours from taking my IR checkride and all done in the 182. I've done two trips over 900nm (one strictly VFR, which made me realize I needed my IR asap, and...

    530W database update

In defense of Garmin, in the era of the original 430 (released 1998), there wasn't really any standard. MMC cards were unveiled in 1997, and SD wasn't even a standard until after the 430's release, in August 1999.

    530W database update

Side note, if you have (or buy) an extra NavData card, you can alternate between the two in the 530W. I have a spare card in my flight bag that I bring home with me, so when I remember there are nav updates, I pop it into my computer and update it there, then swap it with the one in my panel...
