    Passed my IFR Written!

Which equipment do you have in your plane? In my IFD550, I could just program the hold in and hand-fly the magenta/HSI. I wonder if my DPE would allow it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

New ppl, question regarding flight following

Lots of good advices here already. Just one more thing in case you’re not already doing this: monitor the destination airport CTAF frequency way before ATC asks you to change frequency. This way you’re already aware of what’s going on at the airport. And if needed, also report your position as...

Headset comfort: Lightspeed or Bose A20?

I have 2 pairs of A20s, 1 pair of Zulu3, and one Sierra in my plane. The A20s stay in front seats. The A20 is lighter and feels more comfortable to me after a 3-hr flight. However, I honestly can’t tell the difference between any of them, including the cheaper Sierra, for a shorter flight. You...

    Let’s Talk About Autopilots

Have you had any bad experience with the DFC90? I have it in my plane and it’s much better than my old 55X. Flying IFR approaches with it is a breeze. It’s an awesome autopilot with envelope protection. It’s like flying on rails. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Anyone switch foreflight <==> FlyQ?

Try Aerovie. Cheaper than ForeFlight and has lots of functions. The weather planning is great. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    shakeup at Icon

Cirrus would be crazy to buy Icon, especially as they are moving up the ladder, focusing more on the SF50. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Why do people argue glass vs steam?

If you can afford it, learn glass and fly glass. The situational awareness with glass is much easier, especially when flying IFR. I learned with steam gauges and now fly glass. Would never want to go back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Dakota Vs SR20

The SR22 is my first plane so I have no comparison to other high-performance airplane. I was just sharing my cost. “New” MCU, SIU, starter probs, flaps problems, a few other problems, and the high costs of labor in the San Francisco Bay Area all added up. It might be a bit cheaper in Boston? I...

Buying a Plane -- Engine vs Avionics vs Price

Get the avionics you want and ignore the engine time, which rarely reflects the health of the engine. A 2000-hr engine with frequent oil changes, oil analysis, frequent boroscopic inspections, proper leaning technique, etc... can go to 3000 hours or more. Of course when you buy a used plane, you...

    Dakota Vs SR20

If you’re thinking of an SR22, go check it out. It’s a great plane. But maintenance is expensive. A few thousand here, a few thousand there. We have spent about $30K and counting so far this year on maintenance for our G2 SR22 NA. Hopefully next year will be a bit less. If money is a bit tight...

Student pilot going to San Fran

If you’re staying in SF, the closest schools with plenty of CFIs are West Valley Flying Club and San Carlos Flight Center at KSQL. Just give them a call and ask them this very question. They will connect you with their CFIs. I also recommend the Bay Tour but be aware that while your departure...

Do you have a TBO limit?

Frequent maintenance with regular oil changes, oil analysis, engine data analysis, and boroscope exams mean much more than any arbitrary TBO number. An overhaul can cause unintended complications. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    VFR Flight Following?

Why do you need to repeat the destination? Shouldn’t the next controller know that already? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What is a good inexpensive ANR headset?

I second the Lightspeed Sierra. Frankly I have a hard time telling the difference between its excellent noise cancellation and the Zulu 3 or the A20. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    LoLPilot's Private Checkride

Congratulations on a massive achievement and thank you for sharing! I took almost 3 years to complete my PPL as well and at times it seemed the training would never end. In the end it felt a bigger accomplishment than all my graduate degrees. :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Sentry, Foreflight's new ADS-B receiver $400 cheaper than Stratus2s

If this is a valid test, uAvionix had better have some solid data to share. The CO monitor is the one feature that distinguishes them from Stratus. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Sentry, Foreflight's new ADS-B receiver $400 cheaper than Stratus2s

Thanks, Brian. I’m an atheist but appreciate your kindness. Anyway, uAvionix is a cool startup in my neighborhood. Cool that they also have an office in Montana. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Sentry, Foreflight's new ADS-B receiver $400 cheaper than Stratus2s

I live in the heart of Silicon Valley, surrounded by Google, Facebook, Apple, Intel, Tesla, and Stanford University. On my daily commute I pass by countless pharmaceutical companies producing cancer drugs that I use to treat my patients. Is there something about products from California that...

    SR-20

NexAir is a great shop. I had them swap my Avidyne system with dual 430s and 55X autopilot to IFD 550/440, ADSB Out remote transponder, and new DFC90 autopilot. Amazing package. The plane flies like it’s on rails now. There are other more affordable avionic upgrades. The G1 SR22s are great value...
