    What’s the value of a Texas Skyways O-520 in a 182

I have a 1972 and I can say the 1500 ft/min climb with 80+ degree air is great. Still seeing 1000 ft/min at 5000 ft is nice. I easily see 140 knot cruise with 65% power at 14GPH. So if that performance is worth it to you, then get it.

Texas Skyways Conversion 0-520 CHT running hot

if it's a recent conversion you could call them. baffling is reasonable. my 1972 with the texas skyways had a baffle get loose and a replacement fixed it up.

How much TT is too much?

I fly a 1972 182p with over 11k hours. My annual does get a bit more then the usual look over when it comes to the spar and the strut connections but that is just piece of mind for me. No issues with flying an old bird as long as its a taken care of old bird.

    Choosing an online ground school

King private graduate and instrument student here. Corny but you remember the stuff. You take your time with the videos and week or two before your test power sessions. Also practice tests are helpful.

What is your hundred dollar hamburger?

Whatever the specialty is at that particular place. Pizza, burger, steak, fried random things, fish, cheese, etc. I order what they say they do best and others agree with reviews.

    Lifter Failure

Just to pile on the "I am only guessing but maybe this is of thought" warm air hold more moisture while cold/freezing air is dry. I would expect that much running of the engine should take care of the moisture but maybe and that is a weak maybe the warm air is helping with the damage.

    Spraying a horse with water

So I am confused at all this talk. Clearly everyone is wrong and I am right because one person agreed with my deduction that drinking a horse while walking around a block would not cause the tuffet from joining Jill in a heat soak.

Spraying Liquid Nitrogen into a Warm Engine

I have found spraying pigs blood on the engine works better and you get a nice smell of bacon while flying. Then a small pump and a tub of it in the cargo area that sprays a little more every time I mike up helps not only keep cool when flying/talking to atc but also keeps that lovely smell going.

    Citizen watches?

I have 4 of them and love them all. When I catch the crystal I have it replaced with sapphire. Best upgrade for them but other than that they last.

How does a pre-buy work for the seller?

When I bought my 182 I asked the seller to fly to the nearest Cessna authorized repair station. It was a 15 minute flight for them and we both felt comfortable that this repair shop would not cause harm. It took a full day and half for pre buy between going over logs and inspection. Seller was...

Teach me about airplane spark plug wear

First annual with new to me 182 with a carbureted o-520 and 7 out of 12 spark plugs were replaced due to wear beyond spec (pre-buy last october did not find or mention this as a potential issue and they were looked at during pre-buy). I have worked on many auto/small/farm engines and know how...

Picked up a parts washer... What solvent?

Mineral spirits. Cleans well and works better than the two water types I tried in past. Also one of the water based developed some odd slime after sitting for 3 months without use.

    Headset Suggestions

I have a pair of A20, a pair of Halo, and 3 pairs of rugged air that ircphoenix posted above. I loved the A20 until I got the Halo. Now the wife has the Bose and everyone else gets the rugged air. Everyone is happy.

do you keep carb heat on for landing?

Below 20" manifold pressure and carb heat is on. POH and check list says so and it works. Right next to throttle so go around is flat hand to firewall which pushed both throttle and carb heat.

    Runup in parking?

It must be a busy ramp vs empty ramp. No run up but start and taxi out is very common in the airports I frequent and was trained at. When it's you and 2 other planes not near each other it isn't an issue. Also you don't push to the wall either as you just want to get moving. Maybe 1100 rpm tops...

Purchase decisions- 2 place or 4?

One more thing to think about. 4 seaters tend to be a bit bigger and heavier which often means a bit better in less than ideal air. Trained in a 2 seater and bought a true 4 seater and that 4 seater is more comfortable and less turbulence issues. Loaded or all by my self I prefer to fly it over...
