Choosing a "public benefit" flying organization

Does anyone here have experience with “Veterans Airlift Command?” https://www.veteransairlift.org/ On their home page they state, “The VAC provides free air transportation to post 9/11 combat wounded and their families for medical and other compassionate purposes through a national network of...

    Canola fields

When legumes are harvested for their seed (usually dried), they are called “pulses.” Lentils would be a common example.

    Yes, eventually.

I will log that as the "comment of the day."

    iOS 10

I don't notice any speed difference with iOS10 on my two year old 6+. Most of the features I will use are relatively minor. I like the shortcut to "close all tabs" in Safari.

    Sully: liked it.

If you choose to think that it makes an ass out of you, I won't argue. But it still doesn't make it etymologically correct.

    Sully: liked it.

No, that is a silly "backformation," not an etymology.

    Sully: liked it.

Sure: Assume (v.) early 15c., assumpten "to receive up into heaven" (especially of the Virgin Mary), also assumen "to arrogate," from Latin assumere, adsumere "to take up, take to oneself, take besides, obtain in addition," from ad- "to, up" (see ad-) + sumere "to take," from sub "under" (see...

Something about you that not many here may know

Has Mount Whitney been re-surveyed in the last 45-50 years or is the summit continuing to uplift? When I was there a couple of times in the late 1960s, the first order survey marker at the peak read 14,495.811.

rumor: no Ipad update this week

Very much the same here, though my wife's 5 was hers since new; she just waived the last few upgrades. She will be getting a 7+ (or whatever they will call it) and I will wait another year to upgrade my 6+. I suggested to Apple that they adopt a "year" designation instead of model numbers...

[NA] Digital Signboards and Workplace Wallboards

I saw the "Call Center Wallboard" in use at the company where I was working as a Data Analyst (the work of the company was under contract to AT&T). It was in direct support of the call center operations in that building. Sorry I don't know the name of the software that drove it; if I think of...

    IO-360 overhaul video

That was good. The narration gave it the feel of a 1960s junior high school shop class video, but still useful. Thanks for posting it.

    Pet Peeves

People who write "baited breath" when they mean "bated breath." I always imagine someone smelling like salmon eggs when I read that they are "waiting with baited breath."
