Arg...first strobe out, then flickering lights, now battery dead?

Not sure what happened to my plane! I was out flying this weekend, and had a blast, except right at the end, (literally, downwind to base) i noticed my lights flickering on my radio, and then that my strobe wasn't discharging like I thought it should be; then as I turned base to final, I noticed...

    Abandoned airplanes

I suspect that a huge amount of this is the absolutely idiotic medical stuff, which is finally coming to an end. I think the medical reform will be a good step to restarting aviation, as many more people who were active pilots will get out there and at least look at it again. At my airport, Im...

    Abandoned airplanes

There were some abandoned aircraft across from my hangar when I was based at SWO near here, it was really sad to see nice planes go down like this. I moved my plane closer to me 4 years ago or so, and they disappeared after that; not sure what happened to them. I think the airport finally got...

    Abandoned airplanes

Wow a Varga Kachina and an Aeronca just sitting like that is really sad. I wonder what the story is there, there's a lot of neat stuff in that hangar, but it doesn't look like they've moved for a while- the Varga is kind of throwing me, is it missing a wing, or is that just how the pictures came...

    Abandoned airplanes

OMG! I'd love to see that, too bad it's just sitting like that! Was it never finished, I wonder? That would be a great plane to have!!!

    Lost my confidence :(

This. Many accidents are due to factors you can manage; don't do drugs or alcohol prior to or during flying. Do check the weather. Don't fly into instrument weather without an instrument rating and airplane. Do practice landings. Don't do practice aerobatics close to the ground, etc. Try reading...

    Battery Life and Care

I've had a number of Gill G-35 batteries just turn into junk on me, getting 4 years out of one is really quite good. There usually is nothing to be done. I switched to Concorde AGM batteries, they're much better, but I just had one of them crater on me, I left the freaking master switch on, and...

She's been a sitter, probably needs a Top Overhaul??

Heck, look at it carefully, but nearly every airplane in the US fleet has been a "Sitter" at some point in it's life, for some reason. If the engine can be got running safely, and runs fine, just go fly it and check it out; chances are you won't need to do anything major, but in my experience...

    Abandoned airplanes

I actually know of a Comanche that had been sitting for 15+ years in a barn down in Southwest OK that was finally sold to a new owner and throughly rebuilt, I'm hoping it's finally done. The owner had it for years sitting on a pile of mattresses due to a gear problem or something. I remember...

    Abandoned airplanes

Good grief, you would have thought he would have sold it to you rather than have that happen? I would have thought the airport would have sold it to you also rather than just smash it. Did anyone at the airport know you'd been trying to buy it?

    When dreams come true... (long)

Wow, that's Great! Congratulations!!! Live the dream, I love that you're getting to do it! Go for it! Im sure it will be like drinking from a fire hose, but remember they want to get you through it too. Please keep us posted, I for one am really going to be looking forward to reading...

    How do planes gain weight?

LOL! :goofy: Im in the same boat, I could lose some weight cheaper than the airplane can! Maybe not faster though?:dunno:

    A moving story

Welcome Peggy! Peggy, welcome to Oklahoma! Im late, as I hadn't been on here until lately, but I just saw your post regarding your moving adventure. Wow. We've rented trucks when we needed them, I considered buying one when I was moving from Altus, OK, to the Tulsa area, but then I decided that...

    What is happening to us?

I really think the reason you don't see many in the 30 and under set, (heck, 40 and under set, really) at the airport you can find by a quick look at the Wall St. Journal's articles about Generation X, Y, and the millenials, and what's happened to them. A lot of advertisers and other people...

Third Class medical reform moving forward albeit slowly

The Legislative approach is the only one that will work. Expecting the Bureaucracy (DOT, FAA) to take any steps to improve anything is probably folly. We should be focusing all our efforts (and AOPA's, etc) on the congressional bill, especially now that the Senate is actually voting on stuff...

    What is happening to us?

I still think it's 2 major issues, the stupid medical, and money. The congressional bill to fix (end) the 3rd class and the gas prices falling are both things that will help a lot in that! Of course lower gas prices would help the economy tremendously in both the short and long term...

    What is happening to us?

Why thank you! It's been interesting reading all this, people have been talking about this as long as I've been in flying!

    What is happening to us?

I have been at airports all over this area, and I can recall that there was a lot more activity at all of them prior to 2008-9. About that time (not coincidentally the start of the economic problems) the number of hours being flown, and the number of people at the airport, began to drop first...
