    Getting over ascent weirdness

Potentially. I think it would also help for me to feel more comfortable closer to the ground. In a 172, in an established climb at ~ 75 knots, even a slight uncoordinated turn onto crosswind is not going to make the thing fall out of the sky. Confidence building would help me big time, I think.

    Getting over ascent weirdness

Do you maintain take off trim the whole way up?

    Getting over ascent weirdness

That's the thing... I've been told that the ball being even slightly off center can potentially cause a spin, but I sometimes forget that even at 65 knots (wings level in an established climb), I'm still safe... and on all my climbs I'm maintaining at least 75. So even though it feels "weird"...

    Getting over ascent weirdness

So, you wouldn't adjust the trim at all in this case, right? Just a forward push to lower the nose, left bank, level onto crosswind, and relieve the forward pressure to continue climb?

    Getting over ascent weirdness

I think that would make me a feel a lot more comfortable actually. Even just lowering the nose a little bit, turning, then resuming the climb. Is there anything actually wrong with that approach?

    Getting over ascent weirdness

Maybe you're onto something. I've done spin training, but that wasn't the same thing... it wasn't in the 172, anyway. Yeah, the only slow flight I've done is wings level stalls.

    Getting over ascent weirdness

I'm actually well past the slow flight stage (I've already solo'd) and surprisingly slow flight/wings level stalls don't make me anxious. However, I haven't done much in the way of stalls in a turn yet, which is perhaps part of the problem. And I definitely understand relative wind and angle of...

    Getting over ascent weirdness

I'm pretty high up.... 5' 9" so not THAT short. I think it's just paranoia about remaining coordinated. I've been trained from the beginning that skid = spin, though I realize airspeed needs to be low enough as well to stall. I guess I'm just having trouble remaining coordinated in a left...

    Getting over ascent weirdness

I'm post solo and doing pretty well, in the cross country phase now. But for some reason I'm still having trouble with takeoff. Pattern altitude and landings feel great, and I'm confident in those. But for some reason, takeoff still feels really weird: I head down the runway applying right...

172 Pilots: How do you sit?

One thing I've noticed as I've progressed in my flight training is that I've never really figured out the proper seat height/distance from rudder pedals, and whether or not to keep my back flush against the seat back or not. I'm about 5' 9". I usually just crank the seat height all the way up...

Post solo heading for PPL. Best way to fill in gaps?

My course is two fold: there are books to read (such as the pilots handbook, FAR AIM, etc.). I have also purchased Rob M's "flying an airplane" book. I did most of my training online through Kings Schools. I'll admit that there are many sections I breezed through and many, like weather, that I...

Passed my stage check. Nerves settling in for solo. Thoughts?

And I solo'd Friday! Only one lap around the pattern because I got a clogged injector as I climbed out and could only climb at about ~65 in a Cessna 172. Didn't scare me too much as the plane was still flying - turned crosswind, downwind, base, final, and landed! Got extended out by ATC as #2 so...

Passed my stage check. Nerves settling in for solo. Thoughts?

I've got about 45 hours under my belt - a bit above average for someone pre-solo. It took me a while to feel comfortable with side slips and landings. I just passed my stage check last week, and reviewed my pre-solo exam with my instructor. Unfortunately, nerves have set in and I've become...

35 hours in a Cessna, doing a discovery flight in an SR20 tomorrow. Any advice?

Have 35 hours in a 172. Going up with the cirrus instructor tomorrow for a quick "hey what's this feel like?" flight in the SR20. With no experience in that kind of plane, any advice? Since he knows I have a few hours in the Cessna (though I'm still pre-solo) might I get a bit more than a simple...

    iPhone 6+ or iPad?

As a student pilot, I'm just getting introduced to things like Fore Flight, etc. However, it's time for a phone upgrade for me, and I'm trying to decide what I'd like to do. I'm either thinking that I'll get the iPhone 6+ and use that for everything (flight "iPad" plus my regular phone), or...

I have 27 hours. A few weeks away from soloing. Can I fly with an ATP?

Thanks for all the info! This is awesome!

How far am I from soloing, realistically?

I realize it's different for everyone, which is why I would never ask my instructor this! We've now had four lessons in the pattern. I've done about 25 lessons total with another lesson this Sunday. Flying about twice per week. Today we did some engine out landings and crosswind landings, and I...
