    Sleep aids

No, I don't think you'll find reasonable meds that will knock you out consistently without causing serious long-term health problems ((z)benzos, like zolpidem/ambien etc.). Benadryl will probably work short-term (although I wouldn't say that it will knock you out), but just like the...

    777 cockpit vs Airbus cockpit

Sigh. There's really no point in this common anti-Airbus/Boeing sentiment. Both are great airplanes. More importantly, the pilots I've talked to who actually fly either kind really like them. Just last week, I had a longer chat with some BA pilots while we were waiting for the crazy 64 kt...

TSA: Don't write about how useless we are

Hahaha....they surprise me every time with their complete stupidity: http://yro.slashdot.org/story/12/03/08/2241229/tsa-warning-media-about-reporting-on-body-scanner-failures

    TSA Hits the Road

Agreed. The term, however, is very appropriate for what this nation of mostly lazy cowards has become - the most authoritarian regime of the Western world. They must feel lucky that people here generally know nothing about history... :(

TSA Security theater is fake but the X-ray risks are real.

It's the principal, AND the x-rays. Absolutely. The article I linked to was written by foremost experts in the field, there's no doubt in the medical community that these are dangerous (and potentially much more dangerous than that even because they aren't operated by people who have any sort...

Bonanza picks up ice in SoCal - ATC recording

Act, not react. It would have been nice to see more preemptive action by the pilot here. This shouldn't be ATCs problem (not to say that they shouldn't be accommodating). Having had ice in Bonanzas quite a few times, I find the airframe to be very tolerable of quite a bit of ice. I once...

    U-Verse

You know how sad that really is Mike? Monopolies have really wrecked havoc on internet pricing. Here's my old cable modem test: ...for $49.99/month. But even that is pathetic. In Europe, the cheapest plan you can get in many places is $14.99 for 15 MB/down 1/up. And for $50...

Lost comm on VFR flight following?

7600 is a bad idea VFR. What are you trying to tell them? That you've lost comms? Since you are VFR, that isn't relevant to anybody. Go to 1200. I wouldn't stay on my code for long either. I'm sure it's somewhat annoying when a plane on some non-1200 code just flies through your sector...

TSA Security theater is fake but the X-ray risks are real.

That table of background radiation vs. these scanners is meaningless. Those are very different kinds of radiation. Or are you saying that since you also get more radiation from the sun than you do from the scanners, the scanners aren't dangerous? Apples and oranges. You are wrong. No ifs...

    767 Gear up in Poland

So? This shows what's wrong with the media. Nobody except maybe Boeing is actually affected by this. How I wish people would care about the important things :(

TSA: More than 8000 VIPR operations in the last 12 months

That's the way to go! Private "security" has no powers whatsoever and I wish more people would understand that. :(

    Flying Wild Alaska S2

I can confirm that. When I did a semester away at University of Alaska Fairbanks, the student resident assistants were conducting a survey to see how many students were married. It was something like 40%+ :O

TSA: More than 8000 VIPR operations in the last 12 months

At least that would limit the field to candidates who have some intelligence. These clowns on the national stage ruin our international reputation, and they are bad for our domestic political discourse. Some of the topics under serious discussion during presidential debates are unbelievable...

Single engine into a Class Bravo suggestions

Have you ever flown into KPHL? For a class B airport, the fees were very reasonable (in 2005). $7 landing fee waived with fuel purchase and no handling fees. That's how it should be!
