    Prescott 3 departure

Yesterday I departed Prescott using the VCOA and when I was coming up on Drake and, thanks to a strong headwind, I was already through 9000 coming up on Drake so I asked if I could turn on course towards HEC VOR instead of making a climbing right turn back to Drake, the controller approved. My...

“Descent requires before waypoint” on foreflight?

It doesn’t make any sense they have descent required to destination but don’t have descent required to next waypoint. There is even a place to put you altitude at the waypoint. I wonder why they don’t add this functionality. Do any other programs do this? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

    Auto fill airways on foreflight?

When I am on Skyvector.com I can rubber band vor to vor and the airway fills in automatically between it. example: I plug in CVV and OLM into sky vector v165 automatically fills in. On foreflight it just goes vor to vor.

    Old coffee

Ran out of the fresh stuff and found a few month old bag of beans in the pantry. Its not great but its coffee. Besides being smart and always having fresh beans around, what do you do to keep an "emergency stash" somewhat fresh?

What does insurance company consider Make and Model?

Curious. On any insurance company policy with an open pilot warranty it usually says something along the lines of 25 hours in Make and Model. There is nothing in the fine print about what this means and seems to be open to interpretation. If it is a M20C to be flown does this mean the person...

    Poor ATC moment

Had an interesting experience today to share. I was arriving to Concord, KCCR, from the Northwest, around the vallejo area, in a Bonanza. Called tower and was instructed to enter a left base for 1L. I thought a 45 entry to the downwind was more appropriate but seemed harmless enough to go...

    KVCB- whats the frequency?

I went to Vacaville yesterday and tuned into 122.7 . After my first call a guy gets on the radio and says nut tree is 123.05. Now when I look for a frequency I look on the sectional or use the one on my gtn. Since my GTN is two months out of date, I don't really trust it so I got 122.7 right off...

Piper cherokee W&B front seat ARM

So a post on a Facebook forum brought up a Cherokee 140's "problem" that the weight is too far forward when two large people are up front. This was brought up saying that the arm changes based upon seat position. With seats all the way back, as would be the case with larger people, the problem...

    Commercial Pilot Insurance

I have had my commercial rating for some time now but haven’t any “jobs”. Recently I have started to fly for a local company and they put me on the plane’s insurance policy “named insured”. Is there another insurance I should have? Avemco says a non-owner policy only covers personal use, I...

    Slower aircraft descending in front

Had an interesting situation I really hadn’t come across before. I was almost home in my archer and a slightly faster airplane commander) made a turn 2500’ below and 2 miles behind me on the exact same direction. I only knew they were there because they were on my gtn. As I began to descend our...

What I learned today. Things snowball.

This morning I had a meeting in the Sacramento foothills. I was running a little bit behind but still made time to preflight and stuff. Then right as I put the tow bar on nose to pull the plane out of the sun shade a Tesla rolls up to a hangar down my row and starts to pull a cirrus out of the...

    KSAN Pirep

I had business yesterday in Downtown San Diego, meeting at 9am. San Diego International was the only airport that made any sense to use. I've flown into Class B airports in the past but in faster airplanes and there were longish taxi/wait times. I typically try to avoid that if I can especially...

    NOAA sanctuary regulations

I know a guy that accidentally flew 500ft through the no fight operations area near Monterey. How do they enforce that?

Provided VFR operations and private use only

Airports on sectional marked as Pvt often have, in the remarks, something along the lines of “Provided VFR operations and private use only”. What exactly does this mean. I know some pvt airports are pretty welcoming while others you can’t get ahold of them no matter how many people you try to...

Drones, another one of those threads

This past weekend my non pilot friend pulled out a DJI magic air drone and started flying it around. I have to admit I was totally ignorant to the capabilities of these things. The functionality, controllability, redundancy, and safe guards make them reliable and safe to operate by nearby...

    Multi-Engine training West Coast

Driving me nuts trying to find a decent place to get a Commercial Multi-Engine Add-On with instrument. Between wanting to book 3-4 months out, quoting 25 hours plus to complete, and school rules rivaling the thickness of the FARs, I have just about had it. I'm this close || to buying a Twinkie...

    Why is VOR painted red.

Saw this today. If I remember right it was the maxwell vor MXW. Anybody know why it is painted red. I also find it interesting that it appears on my ForeFlight WAC but not sectional. Now you see it, now you don’t kind of thing. Does red mean decommissioned?

Why don't people know the difference between True Airspeed, and Indicated Airspeed...RANT

Yesterday I was talking to a guy with a Turbo 182RG. He asked me how fast my Archer cruised. I told him it trues out at 125 at 75% power. His response "wow you must get a lot of tailwinds because my T-182RG only gets 140 knots, with a tailwind my gps will show 160-170". That aggravated me to...

Flight time as compensation/ is it for hire?

A friend wants me to fly him across the state in my own airplane to go to a meeting I have no part in. I'm not set up part 135, so I would be acting as a Private Pilot. If I bare ALL costs, basically saying, wow thanks for reminding me I want to fly there, would you like to tag along? Would that...
