Garmin Shocker: Inexpensive Retrofit Autopilots For Wide Range Of Planes

This is one reason I am too poor to own a plane: Oh well I can dream at least :-)

[Mike Busch] IT’S DIFFERENT FOR CARS

Not to mention that if the engine goes kaput in a car, you just pull over the side of the road and wait for a tow. Not so easy when same thing happens at 12,000' in a plane. The accessories in planes that go with engines wear out faster than the rest so makes regular costs increase as well as...

    Hiatus due to job loss

Recently I lost my good job and have been out of work for a few months. Unfortunately, I had to put flying on hold. Has anyone here been through this situation and what did you do to get back in the game when you found a new job? Fortunately, I did not spend the money last year buying a plane.

    Adios AOPA...

I am thinking of cancel mine as well next year. Not flying as much after losing the job and already have core knowledge and no real need to pay for it plus on budget.

For Sale Anyone looking for a GOAT?

@rtk- agree the R8 is super comfortable and a blast to drive for a modern exotic. Cousin to the Lambo but less expensive to buy and own.

For Sale Anyone looking for a GOAT?

True, Italian cars are not cheap to own. I like the old Corvette roadsters like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1957-Chevrolet-Corvette-/263021771723 If I was to buy an expensive car, it would be something like the classic American muscle car! It would be less expensive than a newer car to...

    Passed Written, finally.

Congrats I am trying to find a job so that I can knock out the rest of my IR training and pass the checkride before my test expires so I don't have to retake it again.

    McClellan-Palomar Advice

No worries, I get mine snapped off online all the time. Makes for a thick skin in life. I've heard the religious debates of L vs C engines pros and cons. The larger displacement engines from Lycoming like IO-540, TIO-540 are SUPER EXPENSIVE to overhaul and replace compared to Continental IO-470...

Right on comanchepilot, well a partnership would be easiest way for us to afford it. I see A36 prices dropping and V35 prices rising. A few years ago, the older A36 were over 150k, now see more in 110-120k range for basic panel and nice ones for 150k with updated panels.

What model type of the Cessna 182 do you consider the "Sweet Spot" to purchase.

I highly dislike the poor quality of Cessna aircraft doors. They get abused easily at least in rentals and are a royal PITA to open and close. Not a fan of the seating position in Cessnas. I guess I prefer low wing aircraft as they fly nicer and easier to see the pattern. But the high wing vs...

What model type of the Cessna 182 do you consider the "Sweet Spot" to purchase.

The 182 is nose heavy and needs a touch of power for approach due to that characteristic to arrest too rapid a sink rate. Piper Arrows have that a little but not as dramatic as the 182.

If I were to get a 182, my vote would go for a 182Q model. I am not a fan of the flying characteristics of the 182 as they feel like a heavy pickup truck. Flying planes like the Piper Arrow, Socata Trinidad and Beechcraft Bonanzas are more enjoyable to me.

Right comanchepilot I have flown both and like the comfort of the Comanche and flying harmonics of the Bo. My dream ship would be a nice Bonanza A36TC with the large cargo doors for loading pax and gear.

    Cost of Garmin 345 installed?

I thought the Lynx 9000 was around the same ballpark cost as the 345 but depends on features, right? http://sarasotaavionics.com/avionics/lynx-ngt9000 They have it for 5400 about same price as 345. Actually it is a wee bit more than the 345 http://sarasotaavionics.com/avionics/gtx-345 BUT if...

    Cost of Garmin 345 installed?

Did you guys consider the Lynx 9000 before the Garmin 345? I really liked the Lynx unit I tried at last year fly in.

Not bad how do you like the Commanche versus a Bonanza? Commanches cost a lot of $ as much as Bonanzas now for some odd reason.

Is the Garmin 345 worth the extra 2-3k premium over the Garmin 335 model?

I can see why some potential students give up flying.

Good instructors do not yell at students!
