The age old question: Is money important in life?

There is a You Tube video re: the song "If God Was (s/b were) One of Us" c/o Joan Osborne. It's really a song about life priorities and if you watch the video, you'll see a whole bunch of people who are in a far more miserable condition than those of us in the US of A. There is also a great...

    Water in fuel tanks

The C172 had about 1/4 fuel in each tank....per the reliable gauges. We then went to the fuel farm to refuel. I'll bet that the water came from the huge fuel tanks that were there. During the run up, the initial mag drop on the left mag was about 500 rpm. The CFI said anything within 300...

    Water in fuel tanks

Just yesterday, I preflighted a C172SP in Florida (at a flight training school) and much to my surprise, there was actually WATER in the 100LL. Using a GATTS jar, it took about 5-6 samplings before all the water was gone. It wasn't just on one side, it was on both sides AND in the sumps...

    iPAD MOUNTS and ATP checkride

Well will wonders never cease. The first mount mentioned above actually worked the best. My concern over head movement did not come to pass. The ram mounts were not that easy to use, but mount no. 1 was. I recommend going to that website and looking at the how to video to see how simple it...

    2nd pair of glasses required

I need +2.50 readers for near vision. I, as a matter of personal safety, just carry a second pair with me in flight. Near vision lenses are stated on my medical as a requirement, but not that I have an extra pair with me.

Type of Cert and Class of medical

I'm 61, hold a 3rd Class, and will be taking my ATP ride in about 1 1/2 weeks. I just won't be able to exercise the privileges of the ATP certificate. I'm "old" but young at heart.

    iPAD MOUNTS and ATP checkride

I had cataract surgery a few years ago, so my distant vision is great, but I need "readers" to get to my iPAD Air. During training, with a bit more to come, I've experimented with different mounts and know that I can't see my iPAD with either with or without my readers. I've got a few weeks to...

    We have an airplane

Congratulations.:D Are you going to keep it at DuPage? And hey, about all those guys who "hate" Cirrus airplanes -- I LOVEEEEEEE the SR22 and would be flying one today but my budget can't afford it any longer, so now I'm into a C172SP G1000. Good luck with your GREAT airplane.

    iPAD MOUNTS and ATP checkride

Hi. Although I read the posts from around November 2014 that came up from a POA Search, I am still confused about the best method for mounting my iPAD Air for my upcoming ATP check ride (2 weeks from now). I have three mounts that I've used in my training: 1. This guy...

    We have an airplane

Was the plane owned by TE or on a leaseback??? Also, how did you get the owner, be it TE or an individual, to budge? Curious.

    Cataract surgery

My experience was similar. I had both eyes done within a month of each other back in 2013. I felt the doc could have been in there for days as it was so easy and painless. For my subsequent medical, I brought a letter from my doc stating that my vision was 20/20 distant and that my eyes were...

    Plane down in central IL

This is from the February 2013 "Flight Operations Manual -- Instructor Edition" applicable to SR20 and SR22 (+T) aircraft on page 4-5 re: "CAPS Deployment" [only selected portions reproduced]: "The CAPS is a unique safety feature installed in all Cirrus aircraft. CAPS provides a level of...

    Plane down in central IL

It is NOT a last resort. Do you know how many planes flip over and kill their occupants when trying to perform a soybean field landing? I don't, and I suspect neither do you, but I would guess the physics, if thought out properly, would suggest that it would be a lot. Cirrus TEACHES pilots...

    Plane down in central IL

Chute pull parameters I used: 1. 0 to 500 agl = no pull 2. 500 to 1000 agl = maybe 3. 1000 and above = definitely Chute deploys fast. Was in the chute simulator at Cirrus in Duluth and the chute does work and does save lives if a "macho" attitude does not exist.

    Flying into New Orleans

Flew into Lakefront in Feb 2014, so comments are a bit old. Can't remember FBO, but despite a ton of corporate stuff, my Cirrus was treated nicely and w/ respect. FBO was adjacent to a street, if that helps. Flew IFR, so no hassles w/ airspace. It was a "mass flight" of 1 Cirrus, 4 172's and...

how do you remember cloud clearances for vfr

Hi. I forget about #3 as this has too much detail in the actual reg. Under 10k, I go by 500 x 2 = 1000 x 2 = 2000; so, 500 below / 1000 above / 2000 horizontally, all w/ 3 miles vis. Above 10k, per #2, above. Oh, and because I fly near ORD, I completely forget about #1 as I never go into ORD...

    Intestinal emergencies

About 20 years ago, when my son was little, we had an "au pair" stay with us from England. As I was taking lessons in an Arrow for my commercial pilot's license, and she had never been in a ga airplane, I took her up w/ my CFI. We were out in the sticks practicing narrow and short runway...

    Need v. want a Stratus 2S

I returned my Stratus 1S (bought it mainly for wx and gps). Main reason: my mis-perception that METARs, TAFs, etc. were "always" updated to the moment one viewed them on FF, when in reality, they are merely the "latest published" wx products. So, a METAR could be 29 minutes old and it would...
